Dear Parents,
Last Sunday, 8 June, we celebrated Pentecost which reminds us of when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in the form of wind and tongues of fire. Filled with the Holy Spirit the disciples shared the good news, were baptised and celebrated the Eucharist. Like the disciples, we have been blessed with the grace of the Holy Spirit which strengthens and enlightens our faith (John 14:15-17). Pentecost reminds us that it is now our turn to do amazing things because we, too, have been filled with the Holy Spirit.
Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival
Recently we had our Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival. Once again, Zing Active (Dance Fever), along with our amazing Ms Calizar, facilitated our carnival. A huge thank you is extended to Ms Calizar and our staff for all of their hard work behind the scenes to ensure this day was a success. What a wonderful opportunity it was to see everyone have fun and participate in a wide variety of activities. Well done to every single student who participated and a huge thanks to all of our parent volunteers!
Sacred Heart’s Art Trail
We are excited to invite you to Sacred Heart's Art Trail on Thursday 18 September from 4:30pm. Please note that there will be no food provided at this event. The format is also different to the Art Exhibition we have had in previous years but the quality of art on display will be phenomenal. I take this opportunity to thank Ms Morris for her passion and dedication to our Visual Arts program at Sacred Heart.
Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Survey
We invite staff, students and parents to complete online the 'Tell Them from Me (TTFM)’ Partners in Learning Survey to provide feedback on their experience of our school. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at Sacred Heart.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Parents can access the survey using the URL below. The survey window will close this Friday 13 June.

Parent Teacher Conferences
We are holding our Semester 1 Parent Teacher Conferences at the end of the term. This is an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s Academic Report (which teachers are currently writing) and their progress this year. Each teacher has been allocated set times to conduct their conferences. The conference is face to face, held at school, however if you prefer Zoom, please email your child’s teacher to let them know and they will send a Zoom link before the conference. The conference should take no more than ten minutes.
If you haven't already, please book a time via Compass. As you can imagine, teachers spend many hours writing reports and whilst the conference is not compulsory, we ask that if you do intend to participate, that you choose one of the times that your child’s teacher has allocated. The option of zoom should assist with this.

Amadeus Concert - 2:00 pm - Years 3 - 6 on Thursday 19 June
Parents, grandparents and carers are warmly invited to attend our Amadeus concert being held in the hall Thursday 19 June starting at 2:00 pm. The timing of an afternoon concert allows the Amadeus teachers to tune instruments, set up the concert space and have final rehearsals before they showcase the students' learning for this Semester. We hope you can join us.
Instruments
Children should take their instrument home every Thursday. Unfortunately we are seeing instruments left on bag racks which can damage them - especially wooden instruments left out in the weather. Instruments can not be stored at school and students should be taking them home to do a little practice each day.
Class seating
Teachers are responsible for organising the set up and seating arrangements in their class. When organising their room, teachers take into account many, many factors and use their professional judgement to ensure the class runs smoothly. Some teachers move the students and classroom arrangement regularly, others only on a term basis. Sometimes students will be happy with who they are sitting with and sometimes not. Teachers always consider any student requests. Throughout the day, students may be working with a variety of peers on given tasks. Please be assured that teachers monitor and adjust as they see necessary. We ask that parents do not write to the teacher asking that their child be moved to a different seat. Imagine if every parent wrote in? Please trust that the teacher runs their classroom to encourage our schools positive behaviours for learning - Be responsible, Be respectful and Be kind.

"News from The Hub"
Each year we see new and existing students achieving wonderful milestones in their Arrowsmith Cognitive Exercises. Our "heritage students" love the opportunity to "mentor" our "newbies", which helps build cross grade friendships, leadership skills and the opportunity for everyone to celebrate together when a student achieves mastery in a particular level.
Our brain is our most important asset. It underlies all learning. Strengthen your brain. Be your best.

Acknowledging Saint Marcellin Champagnat, this Friday 13th June- for students in the Champagnat (Gold) House:
This Friday, students in the Champagnat House (Gold) are invited to wear their sports uniform & a gold/yellow accessory (hair band, hat, ribbon, socks- NO coloured hairspray, please) in acknowledgement of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers.
What is the connection between Sacred Heart school and Saint Marcellin Champagnat? On the 14th of September, 1922, the Marist Brothers opened a school on our site- prior to this date, the school that was built on our site had been run by the Sisters of Mercy and it was known as St Brigid’s school. In 1944, St Brigid’s part of the school was closed and the Marist brothers school was extended in the year 1945. In 1954, the school on our site was opened as the Sacred Heart school. |

Pentecost Sunday was last Sunday, this marks a significant day in the Christian calendar, celebrated fifty days after Easter, and is often referred to as "White Sunday" or "Whitsunday." It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, as described in the Book of Acts, symbolizing the birth of the Church and the start of its mission to the world.
Pentecost is so important today, primarily because it marks the day when the Holy Spirit was poured out on all believers, fulfilling Jesus’s promise that he would send them an advocate.(John 14:16).
Ways to celebrate pentecost with your family
Prayer is an important way of communicating with God, it serves as a way to connect with him, seek guidance, and express gratitude. Prayer can bring comfort, peace, and a sense of closeness to God especially during challenging times.
I attend Mass at Sacred Heart Parish Wednesday’s 9:15am, so please feel comfortable enough to come and join me anytime. Otherwise if you feel you need prayers for yourself or a family member, send me an email with their name/names and I will be happy to add them to my prayers. anna.macri@syd.catholic.au

Song of the Week
Ascension reminds us we’re meant for greatness—not fame, but holiness. “Rise” encourages students to get up, move forward, and trust in what God is doing—even when life feels uncertain.
song: “Rise” by Danny Gokey Why this song is important:
- It mirrors Jesus’ commissioning: rise and go share the Good News.
- It uplifts those feeling stuck or unmotivated.
- It empowers young people to believe in their God-given purpose.
As you listen and sing along, let it stir a fire in you to live boldly and with purpose, knowing Christ is always with you.
Also a reminder playgroup is next Monday in Parish Hall. Only 2 more Play dates for this term. 16th June & 30th June. Bring morning tea for your child. Morning tea for adults is provided.
All are welcome to join.
Many Blessings
Anna Macri, Family & Faith Educator
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to those parents who have taken the time to complete our survey, some people have had issues with the link so I have made sure that all pathways are accessible and you should all successfully be able to access the form via the link below. Apologies and thank you!
Once again, we sincerely appreciated those who attended our recent Parent Engagement Workshop: Understanding Your Child's Reading Development. It was wonderful to see so many parents actively engaged in supporting their children’s reading.
We have sent an email to the parents who attended with access to the resource slides from the workshop. We hope these will be useful as you continue to foster a love of reading at home.
Please click on the link below to complete the form. Your feedback is very important and will help us tailor future parent engagement workshops to better support our school community.
Even if you weren’t able to attend, we warmly invite you to share any suggestions or ideas by completing the form.

Every Minute Counts: Attendance and Being On Time
Mornings can be busy, and getting out the door on time isn’t always easy. But arriving at school before the bell really helps set your child up for a positive day.
Those first few minutes are more than just routine, they are a chance to connect with friends, join in at assembly, and settle into the learning environment. It’s a calm and social start that supports both wellbeing and learning. Even small delays can add up, being just 10 minutes late each day can result in over a week of lost learning time across the year.
We also kindly ask that all absences are recorded and explained through the Compass app. This helps us to keep track of attendance, support your child’s learning, and ensure their safety throughout the school day.
Thank you for helping your child start each day feeling calm, connected, and ready to learn.
Positive Behaviours for Learning
Our Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) framework is built around three clear and consistent expectations that guide the way we learn, play, and interact every day:
Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be Kind.
These expectations are taught explicitly across the school and help create a safe, supportive environment where every child can flourish. They guide how we treat one another, how we care for our environment, and how we approach learning.
When these messages are echoed at home, they become even more powerful. Thank you for supporting these shared values and helping reinforce them in everyday life.Together, we are helping students grow into confident, compassionate, and capable learners.
As a celebration of our students’ positive choices, our recent Jersey Day was a fun reward that recognised their ongoing commitment to these school expectations.
Have a great week!

Welcome to Week 7’s edition of the sporting newsletter at Sacred Heart. Over the past couple of weeks, we had a few exciting events occur with great results. Keep reading on to see what has been happening in the sporting sector!
Firstly, on Friday May 30th, we had four boys attend the postponed rugby union trial occurring in Coogee. If students were successful, they were to be chosen to make up the Sydney Catholic Schools team. Congratulations to Conrad Barbour and Iggy Findlay on their selection. They will now represent both Sacred Heart and SCS in their next trial in Forbes! If chosen, they will proceed into the MacKillop team. It is never an easy feat the further you get into these trials, so we wish them both the best of luck in their next trial on Sunday June 29th - Monday June 30th.
Over three days last week, Zachary Meacock attended the NSWPSSA State trial for AFL. This was held at Blacktown International Sports Park where there was a beautiful and inspiring Opening Ceremony. There were athletes across primary, secondary and inclusion programs gathered to celebrate the beginning of this new event. Many organisations, schools and sports were represented as they all got together. There were also special performances and inspiring speeches to kick everything off. In saying this, Zachary was part of the AFL MacKillop Team in which the team made it all the way to the grand finals and took silver in the State Championships! Congratulations to Zachary and the MacKillop team for their outstanding results, grit and effort! It is so well deserved, and we as a community are so proud!
Today, we also have two students representing Sacred Heart at the MacKillop Cross Country Championships at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre in Horsley Park. Gisele Camus and Grace Meacock are competing for a spot on the MacKillop team. We wish them the best of luck as I know the competition gets fierce!
That’s all for now in sporting news. I look forward to giving you the next update!
