SPORT

Welcome to the first newsletter of Term 4, and to the final term of the year. Before the school term ended last term, a few students already made some notable achievements.

To start off, at the end of last term, the Year 6 girls netball team competed in their netball grand final. Unfortunately the girls were defeated, but they played exceptionally and had a wonderful season.

On Wednesday 24th of September, we had eight students attend the MacKillop Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. The students who attended represented Sacred Heart in the 800m, 4x Snr Boys Relay, Discus and Shot Put. All students competed to the best of their ability and did really well. As the competition only gets harder, especially at this level, I commend every student who attended and competed. A special congratulations to the Snr Boys Relay team (Lachlan Woodlock, Denzil Wilkinson, Zachary Meacock and Archie Montgomery) who placed 2nd overall and proceeded into MacKillop teams. Since the initial meet, the boys have managed to shave off 6 seconds from their original time due to their efforts and training outside of school. The boys will now be representing MacKillop at the State Athletics Championships on Thursday 23rd of October. We wish them the best of luck!

A while ago, trials were held for cricket throughout the year. One of our students was selected into the NSWPSSA State team. On Saturday October 25th to Friday October 31st, Zachary Meacock will be off to Ballarat to compete in the School Sport Australia Cricket Championships. Not only that, but Zachary was also featured in the Daily Telegraph and was announced alongside Will Watson to help captain the NSW side this year. Refer to below for an extract from the article. We wish him and his team the best of luck as they represent NSW and compete against the other states.

“School Sport Australia cricket titles: Meet the 24 U12 NSW stars in Ballarat
With ties to former Test stars, the state’s top primary school cricketers are heading to Ballarat for the national titles. Meet 24 boys and girls from NSW at the School Sport Champs.

October 9, 2025 - 6:07PM

The state’s top primary school cricketers are about to take a significant step in their developing careers as NSW fields two teams at the School Sport Australia 12 Years and Under Championships in Ballarat.

Renowned for helping launch the careers of Australian legends Steve Smith (Alfords Point Public School) and Ellyse Perry (Beecroft Public School), this year’s tournament will take place over seven days from Saturday, October 25.

A powerhouse in this space following successful trips to Darwin and Adelaide, the girls’ team head toVictoria chasing a third consecutive title. For the boys, it’s a golden opportunity to claim the state’s first trophy since 2009.

Teams were selected from playing groups representing the state’s CIS schools, two Catholic zones and 12 public school regions.

The final squads of 12 were selected earlier this year at the completion of the NSWPSSA

championships held across regional NSW. The boys’ team was selected in Maitland, while the girls’ squad was chosen on the Central Coast.”

I also just wanted to remind parents that our annual swimming carnival for Years 2-6  is slowly approaching. This will occur at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 19th of November. If you are able to spare time on the day, the team at Sacred Heart would greatly appreciate any parent volunteers. Please ensure that all documentation for volunteer clearance has been submitted to the school office. A Compass consent form will be released in the first week of Term 4, so please indicate your child’s events and swimming ability to the best of your knowledge to assist with the organisation of the day.

To close, I am reminding parents about swimming lessons for Years Kindergarten to Year 4. This will occur in Week 4 for Blue classes and Week 5 for Gold classes. Please find attached the “Parent Swimming Note” containing all of the relevant information. Year 5 and Year 6 will be participating in a Surfers Education course later on in the term.

That’s all for now in sporting news. See you in the next edition!
