Dear Parents and Carers,
While our school prepares to wind down after the end of an amazing first term, it is important that we remember that, as a community, we are in one of the most important seasons in the Christian calendar.
We celebrate Easter and we are reminded that Jesus Christ died on the cross, He was buried and on the third day He rose again to bring hope to the world.
As you celebrate this wonderful holiday, remember that Christ gave His life for us willingly and unconditionally and so we should extend the same love to family, friends and those around us.
My prayer is that all of our families truly grasp the full meaning of Easter, that between the chocolate and the eggs and the family time, everyone takes time to reflect upon Easter and its meaning to all of us. We hope you can join us next week for our Holy Week Liturgies.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support of me this term, your welcome has been very much appreciated. Have a safe Easter break!
Last Friday, we welcomed our prospective parents and children to Sacred Heart at our Open Day. We were absolutely thrilled with the number of people that walked through our gates. Our staff and children worked so hard in preparation for this important day and I thank them all immensely for their effort, support and dedication. We also had a number of parents who gave up their time in order to join us and meet and welcome those who visited our school. I especially thank Mrs Imlach who worked so hard behind the scenes as well as on the day and Mrs Luscombe for the set up and preparation. Our Year 6 students are an absolute credit to our school, we have had a number of emails from parents to say how amazing our student tours were and how proud they would be if they were part of this community. THANK YOU, YEAR 6!!

Be part of the conversation: Sydney Catholic Schools is working to shape the future of Sacred Heart and invites your input and ideas.
As previously communicated, we are embarking on a community consultation program to help us shape the future of our school. All the information regarding the process and how you can get involved is now on our website via a dedicated consultation portal. This will be your information hub and will be regularly updated throughout the course of the year. It will also enable you to have your questions answered and where you will be able to contribute your views.
Two additional Parent Forum sessions have been added to the consultation process in response to your feedback.
The following options are now available for our parent community:
- Wednesday 29 March: 6:00pm-7.30pm (school hall) **TONIGHT
- Monday 3 April: 6:00pm-7.30pm (online- zoom link to come)
- Thursday 27 April: 6:00pm-7.30pm (school hall)
If you are unable to attend any of these sessions, you can share your thoughts at any time via the feedback form on the portal.
We look forward to your contribution to this important initiative.
May God bless all our families.

Dear Parents and carers,
We have a busy week coming up with our whole school Holy Week celebrations and Dancefever Challenge for Years 3-6. As we head towards the end of the term, I would like to wish all our families a very special Easter season; a time where we remember the sacrifices of Jesus and His gift to us all. I hope that the school holiday break is a time for students and parents to relax and refresh.
Dancefever
The Dancefever challenge is next Wednesday 5 April and we look forward to a high energy evening with lots of music and dancing.
- Students should arrive at 5:15 pm at the Quaycentre for a 5:30 pm start. (No bus)
- Children should come dressed wearing a black t-shirt / singlet and shorts or leggings with their own choice of clothes over the top. They dance their partner dances first and then take off their chosen clothes and just wear the black clothes for the showdance. The whole group showdance is an ‘Adams Family, Time Warp theme’.
- The venue does not allow for meals to be eaten so children should have something to eat before arriving and then bring a snack and drink bottle to have throughout the night.
- At the end of the evening, all children move to the dancefloor with the teachers and we ask one parent / carer from each family to collect their child / children.
Parent Meetings and School Reports
Each Year, schools set their assessment and reporting schedule in line with the NSW Education Standards. At Sacred Heart, we provide feedback to parents about their child’s progress in a number of ways during key points in the learning cycle: In 2023 we have the following:
Term 1 - Parent, teacher conferences in weeks 4-5
- Our meetings were either face to face or via zoom and provided parents with an overview of how their child had started the year and an opportunity to set learning goals for Semester 1.
Term 2 - A written report
- Teachers provide a written report to parents of their child’s learning for Semester 1. This report is distributed via Compass and uses the A–E grading scale for Years 1 - 6 to provide a common language for teachers to report student levels of achievement. Kindergarten students also receive a written report with a grading system showing if they are working towards, achieving or beyond the expected levels. Parent meetings are scheduled for Term 3 to discuss this report. Parents do have the option to request an earlier meeting with their child’s teacher if needed.
Term 3 - Parent, teacher conferences in weeks 2-3
- These meetings will be held early in Term 3, either face to face or via zoom to provide opportunities for parents to discuss their child’s written report, receive feedback on their learning for the first half of the year and to set learning goals for the remainder of the year.
Term 4 - A written report
- Teachers provide a second written report to parents of their child’s learning for Semester 2. This report is distributed via Compass and uses the A–E grading scale for Years 1 - 6 to provide a common language for teachers to report student levels of achievement. Kindergarten students also receive a written report with a grading system showing if they are working towards, achieving or beyond the expected levels. Parents have the option to request a meeting with their child’s teacher to discuss this report.
Facebook
During the past two weeks we have posted Harmony Day, our Open Day, our Year 6 Leadership forum and the ‘Night of the Notables’ event to showcase some of the wonderful learning, events and celebrations we have at Sacred Heart. At the moment, we only have a small number of likes or comments and we encourage you to like or comment on our posts to assist in increasing our school profile.
Ms Morris
Ms Lianne Morris is recovering well from her fall and has advised that she will return to our school in Term 2. I know that 5 Blue students and parents will welcome her return. We thank Mrs Anna Siokos and Mrs Stephanie Matchett for teaching 5 Blue during Term 1. We are very fortunate that they were able to rearrange their family commitments and work extra days and we thank them, along with Mrs Watson for maintaining a consistent and excellent approach to teaching and learning in Year 5.

Night of the Notables - Year 6
This term in Year 6, the students have been focusing on Biographies, specifically Notable Australians. The students have been working very hard on their presentations and on Tuesday they invited all of Sacred Heart to come and learn about their notable. They did an amazing job and made their teachers very proud!

SRC’s first meeting
Last week, our SRC team had our first meeting. We introduced all SRC members to each other and their buddy. The SRC leader will be able to bring a new class buddy each meeting, so that all students have the opportunity to be part of SRC initiatives. In this meeting we talked about bringing back the ‘Suggestion Box’ so that we can hear ideas from all of our students in the school. We also discussed creating our own ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ to be read at assemblies. This will be a project to begin in Term 2.
We spent the rest of our time designing our ‘Suggestion Box’ poster to promote its upbringing.
This is what the SRC members have designed so far.

We would love to see families at our Holy Week Liturgies in Week Ten at the
Assembly area from 8:40am.
Sacred Heart Family Masses
Thank you to all who were able to attend the Year Two and Year Five Family Masses and thank you to those who volunteered to assist on the day.
Year 3 families will celebrate their Mass on Sunday, 2nd April for Palm Sunday at 9:00am.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Once again we have had a busy couple of weeks with sport. On Monday 27th March, girls in Years 4-6 from the Sacred Heart Netball Club participated in the Anne Sargeant Netball Clinic. Thankfully the weather held off so that the girls were able to train and learn more about Netball outside. Everyone learnt something of value and something new!

On the same day, we had a few students represent Sacred Heart at the Swimming Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park. An amazing effort to all who participated. It was a successful event and the students enjoyed it. A special congratulations to Audrey Graf who placed first in the 50m freestyle on Monday and will swim on Thursday at NSWCPS for MacKillop.
In Term 2 we will begin non-competitive Interschool Sports for Stage 2 and 3....... Stay tuned for the updates!
Finally, just a reminder to keep a special eye out on The Catholic Weekly for Sienna Livermore’s upcoming article.
Kind Regards,

On Friday 24th March, 12 of our Year 6 leaders ventured into the city to attend Sydney’s Youth Leadership Conference. The purpose of the conference was to equip our leaders with the skills and confidence to be change-makers. The students were inspired to ‘Feed your courage, not your fear’, the power of communication and to own your story. They were spoken to by ‘Young Australian of the Year, Lottie Dalzier, CEO Wil Massar, and shark attack survivor Brett Connellan.
