Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you are enjoying your increasing freedoms and have made some plans for this weekend to reconnect with friends and loved ones. We are transitioning more children back to school and trying to restart all of our normal procedures and routines for our children. It does take a little while for each child to settle so if your child is yet to return, expect a few nerves and excitement from them as they emerge from their home schooling.
We have a detailed plan of work and assessment for each class when they return. The first focus will be on welcoming the children back, wellbeing and then assessment and learning.
Last Friday we sent out a very detailed plan that shared the restrictions that school will still be under. Please refer to that as to the way forward. One area where we will need your support is dismissal as already we can see that it will be our greatest challenge. A few reminders for the procedure for next week - Our front gate refurbishment will be finished by Monday (hopefully the builders will be working throughout the weekend to resurface inside the gate. The new tiles on the steps are slip resistant and tactiles and bollards have been added for safety while descending the stairs. Signs in cars are essential.
From next week:
- Front steps will be used for car line. K-2 and siblings picked up at 2.45pm. Each car needs a sign
- Back gate will be used for parents walking to school. Each adult needs a sign
- Years 3-6 will be brought to the back gate and front steps at 3pm
- Students should know how they are going home each day
Our online canteen Vanilla Blue will be available again on the Flexischools app from 25th October. Please see the flyer below in this Newsletter.
Preparing for 2022
Music will be a huge focus for Sacred Heart in 2022. All primary students will have access to the compulsory Amadeus program and also have the opportunity to further grow their musical knowledge and skills with the Music Mates program. Music Mates will continue to offer private tuition, group classes for all grades and they will begin in 2022 to run our school band. They will offer a Training Band for Years 2-3 and for our students who have never played in the band before. They will also run a Senior Concert Band which will be open to students in Years 3-6 who have already had experience in Training Band. The signup process is the same for all programs. Head to the Music Mates website and click on signup/login and step through the process.
Unfortunately Music Mates won't be on site this year due to government restrictions for schools. You are able to access their lessons at their St Leonards studio in the meantime.
The children are currently celebrating a wonderful Science Week and having so much fun in doing so. Please see the flyer below in this Newsletter for the activities they have experienced so far. Today's activities included presentations from OzHarvest.
The PAWS expectation that we are promoting this week is encouraging children to Be Responsible. We are encouraging children to be ready for learning, on time and to act responsibly in class or Zoom meetings. We hope this will help with the children’s transition back to school.
Please see the dates below for each grade’s return to face to face teaching date and other term dates.
Enjoy your week.
Regards
Julie Caldwell
