Dear parents and carers,
You will notice that in the last two weeks the theme of the gospels has been food. The feeding of the 5000 from last week tells the story of the unexpected nourishment, in the form of the loaves and fishes, given to the crowd that came to hear Jesus speak. In last week's Gospel Jesus speaks of the bread of life as spiritual nourishment. But how do we get spiritual nourishment when our churches are closed or restricted for a good part of the year? I find you have to be quite creative and inventive. You can either seek out online mass services (see Heartfelt) - I found a few very good ones online or you can seek spiritual nourishment within our homes by communicating with our families, praying together, playing games together or rereading those books which lift you in a positive way. We all currently have a little time to spare for these continued or new pursuits. I am trying to lift my culinary skills from the mundane to something more nutritious and flavourful as well as regularly “attend” mass from the couch each week. I hope you are having some success with a new pursuit in lockdown.
This week Mr Brierley and myself caught up with most classes on Zoom meetings. Our Year Three to Year Six classes are used to checking in with their teachers on their devices most mornings as they set their work and check in with each other. Our Kindergarten to Year Two teachers had their first experience of class or grade Zoom meetings and so far have shown excellent technological skills and a great ability to listen and be patient with each other. I know they loved seeing and interacting with their teachers and seeing their friends. We will continue to check in and see our students as often as we can.
Can you please keep Mrs Curran and her sister Mrs Hunt in your prayers - their much loved big brother Bernie passed away over the weekend.
At our Zoom assemblies on Monday and Friday we also give information to families and students. I encourage you to pop in and listen with your child.
At this Friday’s assembly we will
- See how far we have walked to Tokyo. To log your steps please go to: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mBY0pIrcpCbOxJ6KafnARg1QlLKLDk5H/view?usp=sharing
- Give out the PAWS awards for children being SAFE online. Can parents please send their recommendations to Mr deVilliers at adamdevilliers@syd.catholic.edu.au

‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never be hungry. He who believes in me will never thirst.’
A reflection from Sunday’s Mass, Sacred Heart Parish on the 2nd August, the 18th Sunday of Ordinary Time.
This is a reminder to let ourselves be nourished by the bread as we gather and pray together. In the prayers that we say, amongst the people we live with, in our own homes, during this period and always, in the presence of God. Thank you Father Phil, Father Henry and Father Noel for inviting us to share with you a beautiful Eucharistic celebration each Sunday via the link below.
Reflections for our students:
What are some of your favourite things?
Which of these are important because they keep you alive and well?
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells us He gives us the bread of life, Himself. How is Jesus good for us?
The more we believe in Jesus and do what He asks of us, the more we have Jesus within us.
We pray that Jesus will be with us this week and fill us with His goodness.
