Enrichment in Term 1
Throughout the term many students have been working on a variety of enrichment activities designed to enhance their skills, expand on their interests and promote a love of learning and discovering. These activities have provided opportunities for the students to have choice and voice in the design of their learning and to share their knowledge and discoveries with their peers.
A Year 2 group has been part of Empower Hour. They are currently preparing to present on their topics that include Memory and how it works, Pollution, The timeline of a baby and Fashion. Their enthusiasm and ideas make this an exciting and enjoyable activity for all involved.
Another group from Years 3-6 has been in an Engineering challenge to build a free standing structure using only newspaper and tape. It needs to hold at least one team member. This involved working in a team of 2 or 3, brainstorming ideas, designing, building, testing, amending/redesigning and presenting the final structure for testing. The students evaluated their experience and shared their results with their peers. The development of a growth mindset in regards to taking risks and the determination to find solutions are great outcomes from these types of activities. Our school foyer was a great setting for this display to be enjoyed by everyone who entered the school.

Other activities that students are currently involved with include Empower Hour in Years 3-6, Prose and Poetry in the Literacy Group and some Special Projects.
These opportunities allow students to work on subjects of interest, take responsibility for planning and managing their work and time and to have the pleasure of sharing these interests and skills with their peers.
It is exciting and rewarding to work with these students who take great pride in what they do, always offering interesting and constructive advice to their co workers.
