RELIGIOUS EDUCATION UPDATE
NAIDOC WEEK
Australia recently celebrated NAIDOC Week, an annual celebration that is held across Australia in July, to acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of First
Nation Australian peoples. What an exciting time NAIDOC Week was, especially for our Indigenous Australian communities, with Ash Barty winning the women’s singles title at Wimbledon and Tai Tuivasa winning the UFC heavyweight division.
Ash Barty is now the current women's singles champion in the world. She is the second Australian to receive this title, after fellow Indigenous Australian player Evonne Goolagong Cawley.
This year, the theme for NAIDOC Week is ‘Heal Country.’ This ties in so beautifully to the Deep Learning that we are engaged in at Sacred Heart, with the support of David Harrington and his work around gardening and sustainability.
God of all creation
As we journey together in this Great Southern Land,
We pray for healing, forgiveness, and unity,
Creating a path of goodwill, with justice and compassion.
Jesus, through the power of Your love,
You have given us the courage, wisdom, and strength
To share our gifts and talents in humility.
In peace and understanding we reconcile with each other.
Creator Spirit, we come together in prayer and thanksgiving,
for the many blessings we have received.
Allow Your Spirit to wash over us
And give us strength to walk together as one.
Amen.
