HeartFelt

Family & Faith.jpg

We have three more weeks of school and although I look forward to the celebration of Easter, I feel a bit resentful that it’s during the school holidays so I don’t get to walk the Easter Triduum with you all, in a more intimate way.  To make up for this, I’ve decided to write about these special days in our church calendar for the next few weeks.  Let’s begin with Holy Thursday.  I’m sure you all know about the washing of the feet (by the way, you all have a bar of soap in your family Lenten packs) and the Institution of the Eucharist.  Of course, this was the greatest gift that Jesus Christ gave us; the ability to partake in the Eucharist on a daily basis through Mass.

What about the Chrism Mass?  What is it, I hear you ask?

Around the world, Bishops and priests come together at their local Cathedrals on Holy Thursday morning to celebrate the institution of the priesthood. During the Mass, the bishop blesses the Oil of Chrism that is used for Baptism, Confirmation, and Anointing of the sick or dying. Priests from every parish gather at the cathedral to participate in the Mass and bring home the Holy Oils. The sea of priestly robes is breathtaking.  At this Mass, Archbishop Anthony Fisher will also wash the feet of twelve priests to symbolize Christ’s washing of his twelve Apostles, our first bishops and priests, reminding them to go out into the world, be humble and evangelise with love and conviction.

If you get the chance, take a trip to St Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday,18th April at 10.30.  It is a spectacular Mass which not only entices the eyes but convinces the soul that the breath of God is alive and well in us all.

SHM  Lenten Journey

This week’s challenges were:

Faith: Think of a time when you weren’t patient. Ask God to make you more patient.

Generosity:  Share something with a friend this week.

Courage:      Stand up for a peer in the playground or at work.

Next week we commence week 4.

Download this Lenten app. This is a great way to install daily prayer and reflection into your day.  It only takes a few minutes to go over the day’s reflection but it can really change the way you see the day.

ALTAR SERVING TRAINING NEWS:

Well done to the SEVENTEEN year 5 and 6 students who got out of their warm beds extra early to be part of the altar training sessions.  Deacon Joe was informative and entertaining and the children were attentive, polite and absolutely terrific! There is one more session on Tuesday 7th May (after the school holidays).

If you would like your child to be placed on a weekend Mass roster, please email mary.lozina@syd.catholic.edu.au.  They have the options of:

Saturday night 6.15 pm

Sunday  morning 11am

Sunday night 6pm

Altar serving is usually a monthly commitment and of course, they must have attended the sessions.

Gift of Bread.jpg

We need a few more people to sign up for two specific jobs:

  • Crate return on Fridays: We still need some drivers to return 10 crates to Baker’s Delight in Neutral Bay. You don’t need a very big car.
  • Delivery of bread to St Leonard’s church hall in Naremburn on Friday mornings after school drop off between 9 and 9.30
  • https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0548acac2da4fc1-shmgift

We would really appreciate your help. Children are most welcome to help with bread packing on Thursdays but they need to be supervised by their parents.

SPaR……….Stop,Pray,Reflect…

We finally had our library space back for SPaR this week.  It felt great to be able to catch up over a coffee and reflect on the intimacy of spirituality and faith.

VINNIES NIGHT PATROL SNACKS AND SWEETS

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Your generosity has been a joy.  Every time I walk through our school foyer my face lights up. Our next delivery to Vinnies night patrol kitchen will be Monday 1st April.  It anyone would like to bake brownies or cookies on the Sunday night, please pack them in separate zip lock snack bags and  bring them to the school office by 8.40am. I’ll take them across as I’m on soup kitchen that day.  Speaking of soup kitchen……please read below….

HELP OUT IN VINNIES SOUP KITCHEN

If anyone is interested in helping to make soup at Vinnies (or other little jobs) please email Mary Lozina.  It’s a short trip to  Lewisham and the hours are 10am to 1pm.  You may like to do a monthly or fortnightly visit with a friend! I catch up with my buddies every month and I love it!
