PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week I had a Check In with each grade to see how they were travelling and learning. In each class I saw many happy and engaged learners. Even though we continue to live with restrictions, our students are showing their resilience and seem to be thriving and growing. On my check in this week I found;

Kindergarten were busy in the mathematics class learning about measurement. This morning they held their 100 days of Kinder liturgy.

1 Blue were busy in the library and very excited about the puzzle books and fabulous stories that they were able to borrow on a weekly basis.

1 Gold were working on their Science experiments and looking at the marvellous mixtures they could make when creating an ocean from a solid and liquid mix.

Year 2 were concentrating on their maths fluency tasks to ensure they are very familiar with their maths facts. Who knew this substitute for rote learning could be so much fun!

Year 3 are learning about the different levels of the ocean (science) and their classroom is beginning to look like they are deep beneath the sea. More to follow next week when we can peek inside their classrooms...

Year 4 classes were very engaged in their detective work (geography and science) as they investigated Cleudo style who had committed murder of an environmental victim. Lots of research to follow to obtain enough clues to catch their villain.

5 Blue were being very creative in creative arts as they wrote, filmed, produced and  adapted movies. Some promising movies were a rewritten Shrek adventure and a new School of Rock rendition.

Year 5 continued with their study of poetry and  by exploring and writing  Cinquains, parodies and Tankas, haikus and ballads. Some samples are available below:

Mr Brierley and a group of enthusiastic mathematicians were very engaged in maths problem solving.

The Year 5 STEM team are programming ways of detecting different ocean levels for fishermen.

Our school STEM team are preparing activities for OCEAN Week next week. It certainly looks like we will be immersed in the Deep Ocean and learning about the creatures of the deep.

Further Covid Restrictions

Further restrictions are being announced this afternoon for schools. They will be passed on by the Premier’s Department and NSW Health. This will definitely affect some of our proposed activities for the rest of the year. As these emerge and we collaborate with Sydney Catholic Schools we will bring you the latest updates and changes.

Parent pick up of students during the day

Can you please email the school office and your child’s teacher with the time and reason before you attend the school to pick up your child. Where possible appointments for children should occur outside school time.

SCS TELL THEM FROM ME Survey

Once a year Sydney Catholic Schools requests that we survey parents, teachers and students about their experiences at school. These surveys are anonymous and they help the school and SCS to shape the School's goals. The following link will take you to the Sacred Heart 2020 survey. The survey will be closed on the 28th August. It would be greatly appreciated if you could fill in the survey. This year’s survey is a very short one and relevant to this year's experiences so far. The staff will be asked to fill in the survey as well as the Year 4 to 6 students.

Regards

Julie Caldwell
