St Mary of the Cross Feast Day, this Friday 8th AugustMM.png
This Friday we acknowledge the feast day of Saint Mary MacKillop, first Australian saint. As part of our celebrations, Year Two will lead the school in a Liturgy to honour St Mary of the Cross (following morning Assembly).

All students in MacKillop House (green) are invited to wear their Sports uniform this Friday and a green accessory eg. a green hat, green ribbon, green socks etc. (No coloured hairspray).

What is the connection between Sacred Heart and Saint Mary MacKillop

Mary MacKillop was born on the 15th January, 1842 in Melbourne Victoria. Her parents were immigrants from Scotland. After serving as a Governess in the South Australian town of Penola, MacKillop and Father Julian Tenisson founded Australia’s first order of Nuns, the Sisters of Saint Joseph. They opened Josephite schools around Australia, providing free education to families in need. In the year 1888, the Sisters of Saint Joseph opened and ran a school right at the very bottom of Cardinal Street and Prince Street, Mosman! It was called the St Peter Claver School. Mary MacKillop walked the very streets that we walk in Mosman. The Sisters of Saint Joseph began the foundations for our school, Sacred Heart.

We would love to welcome Sacred Heart families to attend Family Mass followed by morning tea on Sundays from 9am.
