SPORT

Welcome to Week 7’s edition of the sporting newsletter at Sacred Heart. Over the past couple of weeks, we had a few exciting events occur with great results. Keep reading on to see what has been happening in the sporting sector!

Firstly, on Friday May 30th, we had four boys attend the postponed rugby union trial occurring in Coogee. If students were successful, they were to be chosen to make up the Sydney Catholic Schools team. Congratulations to Conrad Barbour and Iggy Findlay on their selection. They will now represent both Sacred Heart and SCS in their next trial in Forbes! If chosen, they will proceed into the MacKillop team. It is never an easy feat the further you get into these trials, so we wish them both the best of luck in their next trial on Sunday June 29th - Monday June 30th.

Over three days last week, Zachary Meacock attended the NSWPSSA State trial for AFL. This was held at Blacktown International Sports Park where there was a beautiful and inspiring Opening Ceremony. There were athletes across primary, secondary and inclusion programs gathered to celebrate the beginning of this new event. Many organisations, schools and sports were represented as they all got together. There were also special performances and inspiring speeches to kick everything off. In saying this, Zachary was part of the AFL MacKillop Team in which the team made it all the way to the grand finals and took silver in the State Championships! Congratulations to Zachary and the MacKillop team for their outstanding results, grit and effort! It is so well deserved, and we as a community are so proud!

Today, we also have two students representing Sacred Heart at the MacKillop Cross Country Championships at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre in Horsley Park. Gisele Camus and Grace Meacock are competing for a spot on the MacKillop team. We wish them the best of luck as I know the competition gets fierce!

That’s all for now in sporting news. I look forward to giving you the next update!
