SPORT

We are already halfway through Term 2! All of this rain so far has not yet managed to stop us.

On May 13-15, 14 teams and 140 players from across NSW hit the courts in Minto for the NSWPSSA Boys Basketball Championships, hosted by Sydney South West.

Over three intense days of basketball, teams battled through round-robin pool matches before the final day’s playoffs. Sydney North and Hunter topped their pools and faced CIS and MacKillop in the cross-over semis. Sydney North and CIS claimed victory to progress to the final.

      Final Results:

      •  Sydney North – Champions
      •  CIS – Silver
      •  MacKillop – Bronze (def. Hunter in 3rd place playoff)

We congratulate Jorge Pyke for representing Sacred Heart, with MacKillop coming third overall in the play-offs. It is never an easy competition and we are so proud of his results!

On Monday 26th of May, Stage 3 participated in their Interschool Sports Gala Day for European Handball. Other Conferences had to have theirs cancelled and rescheduled, but we were so lucky and blessed that the rain held off for ours to go ahead. Thank you to Mrs. Stephanie Matchett and our Stage 3 teachers for executing the day in my absence. From what was reported, the students had a great day and represented Sacred Heart well.

Today also marks Sacred Hearts Athletics Carnival. We are so blessed to have it still go ahead despite all of the rain over the weekend. I am sure that the students will have a great day. Thank you to our staff and teachers for assisting with the running of this day. Thank you also to ZING Activ for their support and assistance in the running of this day - their help, knowledge and time is such an asset to Sacred Heart. Last but certainly never least, a special thank you goes to our tremendous parent volunteers. Your willingness to get involved and within all of the action is so valuable and greatly appreciated on a day like this.

On June 4 - 6th, Zachary Meacock will be away in Sydney’s West at Blacktown International Sportpark competing in the NSWPSSA AFL Championships. We wish him the best of luck, and if further selected, he will represent Sacred Heart as part of the School Sports Australia State AFL team.

Lastly, in two weeks time on Wednesday 11th of June, Gisele Camus and Grace Meacock will be away competing in the MacKillop Championships for Cross Country. We look forward to hearing of their results.

That’s all for now in sporting news. See you in the next edition!

      Kind Regards,

      Miss Austrie Calizar
      Sports Co-ordinator
