What an eventful couple of weeks it has been in the sporting sector for Sacred Heart. There are a lot of wonderful results to commend students for. Read along for the results!
On Friday 21st of February, we had two students compete for a spot in the MacKillop Team in Wollongong. We congratulate Jorge Pyke in Year 6 for his selection into the NSW U/12’s MacKillop Blue Boys Basketball Team. It is no easy feat and a remarkable effort. He will be competing at the NSW All PSSA Boys Basketball Championships on Tuesday 17 June - Thursday 19 June 2025 at Sutherland District Basketball Stadium.
On Monday February 24th, we had one student attend the Conference Rugby League trial. We would like to congratulate Conrad Barbour for representing Sacred Heart beautifully and for progressing to the Sydney Rugby League Trial. We wish him the best of luck as he trials on the 10th of March for a place in the Sydney Catholic Schools team.
Also on Wednesday the 5th of March, we will have Mia O’Callaghan representing Sacred Heart at the 2025 SSU Australian Football State Selections for Girls AFL in Centennial Park. If successful, Mia will progress onto the State team and compete in the National Championships. We wish her the best of luck on this trial.
As mentioned in the last sporting edition, we had Zachary Meacock away in Maitland for the NSWPSSA Cricket Championship. This championship was a week long and the MacKillop team put up an amazing effort and walked away with a bronze medal. Such a great achievement by our students in the Catholic sector. On an individual level, Zachary had a great tournament - knocking a milestone 54 not out off 53 balls in game 2. Not only was Zachary captain of the MacKillop team this year, but all of the hard work has seen him rewarded with re-selection into the NSW cricket team - he has been invited to compete in the national championships in Ballarat in October this year. Congratulations to Zachary and we look forward to your future results!

Baggy Blue - Zachary sizing his head up for his baggy blue presentation later this year.
On Monday 3rd of March, we also had 22 students representing Sacred Heart at the Conference 1 Swimming Championships. It was a great day out with beautiful weather and records being broken. The students that attended represented Sacred Heart so beautifully so I commend them on their behaviour and representation of the school. Please join me in congratulating the following students for progressing to the Sydney Catholic Schools Swimming Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Monday 24th of March.
- Eliza Pearson: Girls 10 50 Free & Girls 8-10 50 Fly JUNIOR
- David Persinger: Boys 8-10 50 Breast JUNIOR
- Lachlan Woodlock: Boys 12-13 50 Back SENIOR
In closing, this is just a reminder that Tuesday March 11 will mark our first Sacred Heart sporting event which will be our annual cross country for students in Year 2-6. This will be held at Allan Border Oval. The first four students overall in each age group with the exception of the 8 and 9 year olds as it is a combined event will progress. Unfortunately children who turn 7 this year will not be able to progress as per the guidelines stated within the sporting association. Children who are 7 and choose to participate will be competing for enjoyment or as practise for the following year. As the event is held in year groups, a child who is the same age below or above your child’s year group may take the placing after final results have been collated.
