Well, Term 2 has just flown by. I can’t believe we are already half-way through 2019!

Speaking of flying, this year’s BOOK WEEK theme is –

READING IS MY SECRET POWER!

Reading empowers all of us, no matter what age, race, gender or religion. How awesome that we share this universal ‘super power’ with so many people! Did you know that our secret power begins pre birth? Being read to as a baby in the womb is the first time our secret powers were used without even knowing it.

Family reading practices and the influence of educators, significantly impact a child’s attitude towards reading. Our role is to ignite that flame within the child to become curious and connected to texts and to be able to express their ideas creatively.

Book Week runs from 17th August to 23rd August 2019 - Term 3, Week 5

Our annual BOOK WEEK PARADE will be held on TUESDAY 20TH AUGUST at 8:40am.

During that week, we will also have author Lesley Gibbes visit and talk about her books and the work of an author.

A great holiday time activity would be to start looking around home for bits and pieces for that perfect costume! – no need to go to great expense, just use your imagination (we all have an array of bits hidden in cupboards!) We love to see children who have been creative and made their own!

Think about the theme - secret powers can also be super powers. There are lots of amazing characters from books to inspire you eg any super hero, Roald Dahl’s Matilda, Enid Blyton’s Famous 5 or Secret 7, real life heros and their story eg sporting, or someone that has made a difference to our world.

We are also running a POSTER COMPETITION to support our Book Week Theme. Our amazing art teacher Miss Conroy, has been working with the children on this already. 

Finally, we have our CARNIVAL BOOK FAIR which will take place from the 2nd September to 6th September. The library will be open before and after school on that week for you to purchase books. Your child/ children will have an opportunity to put together a wish list as part of their library lesson/
