Principal's Message
24th May 2019
Dear Parents and Carers
This week we are finalising our interviews for 2020. Many of the families we have interviewed seek to come to Sacred Heart because of your recommendations and for community that has been built here. Outside people have looked at our senior students and found them to be compassionate, friendly, articulate and proud of our school, they have found our staff warm, welcoming and student focused. They have found the sense of community and the parents they meet to have built a community that they would like to be part of. Thank you for being part of our community and your contribution to making our school a great place to be.
If you have not encountered the work of social researcher Brene Brown yet I encourage you to look at her TED talk on vulnerability. Her research encourages us to show our vulnerable side in order to be our true selves. One of her latest pieces talks about wholehearted living by encouraging us to be role models of imperfection by letting go unhealthy expectations.
Ten Guideposts for Wholehearted Living
- Cultivate authenticity: let go of what people think
- Cultivate self-compassion: let go of perfectionism
- Cultivate a resilient spirit: let go of numbing and powerlessness
- Cultivate gratitude and joy: let go of scarcity and fear of the dark
- Cultivate intuition and trusting faith: let go of the need for certainty
- Cultivate creativity: let go of comparison
- Cultivate play and rest: let go of exhaustion as a status symbol and productivity as self-worth
- Cultivate calm and stillness: let go of anxiety as a lifestyle
- Cultivate meaningful work: let of self-doubt and “supposed to”
- Cultivate laughter, song, and dance: let go of being cool and “always in control”
Our Year 2 mass was well attended last Sunday by our families and was a great celebration and reminder of God’s love. Love one another as I have loved you was the gospel of the day. Father Pelle spoke to year 2 about kindness and inclusion. We have reminded children this week about anti bullying. Can you have a chat with them about what strategies they have learnt about and been reminded about at school this week.
Thank you to our Year Six teachers for their participation in the Catholic Care parent night and the Confirmation retreat day. Thank you to Thomas and Mary and the parents who assisted in retreat day.
You may have noticed that on Thursday staff are dressed in their activewear. Not only are they extremely comfortable, the staff are participating in the 2019 Step Challenge. This is a staff wellbeing initiative that encourages physical activity and to take a time out for themselves to be active. As much we endeavour to nurture the wellbeing of our students, we also aim to ensure the wellbeing of our valuable staff. If you do see a teacher in their active wear, ask them how many steps they have! We are doing awards each week to recognise teams and individuals. Congratulations to the team 'Sacred Heart and Soul' who accumulated a total of 637 565 steps in the first week. Congratulations to Susan Russell who received the award for most steps in one day, which was a grand total of 27 649!
