Principal's Letter
17th May 2019
Dear Parents and Carers
This Sunday you are all invited to the Year 2 Family parish mass at Sacred Heart at 9am on Sunday. The gospel for the day contains one of our most profound messages of the Catholic faith: “Love one another as I have loved you.”
The following, from Pope Francis also touches on our calling to invest in relationships.
“Today’s media environment is so pervasive as to be indistinguishable from the sphere of everyday life. The Net is a resource of our time. It is a source of knowledge and relationships that were once unthinkable. However, in terms of the profound transformations technology has brought to bear on the process of production, distribution and use of content, many experts also highlight the risks that threaten the search for, and sharing of, authentic information on a global scale. If the Internet represents an extraordinary possibility of access to knowledge, it is also true that it has proven to be one of the areas most exposed to disinformation and to the conscious and targeted distortion of facts and interpersonal relationships, which are often used to discredit…The present context calls on all of us to invest in relationships, and to affirm the interpersonal nature of our humanity, including in and through the network. All the more so, we Christians are called to manifest that communion which marks our identity as believers. Faith itself, in fact, is a relationship, an encounter; and under the impetus of God’s love, we can communicate, welcome and understand the gift of the other and respond to it.”
Next week we will be revising our conversations with the children regarding bullying: identifying it, strategies to deal with it and the way that bystanders can become upstanders by taking appropriate action against a bully. Year Six will be organising another play date on Friday by providing structured play activities for all children.
Friday 31st May at 8.40am is our Big Blue Award assembly, the coffee cart will be here and all parents are welcome.
Many thanks to all our staff and families who supported the Year 3 and Year 5 students in their preparation for and supervision of the Naplan tests which were held this week.
The Kinder and Year 1 School Athletics Carnival was a great success. The children had such fun while learning valuable skills that they can use when they progress to our “big” carnival. Thank you to Mr DeVilliers, our staff and our Year 6 sports leaders who organised the day.

Crazy Sock Day
On Friday the 31st of May we will be holding crazy sock day in order to support one of our children who will be representing NSW in basketball. Children can wear any sort or type of sock on that day for a gold coin donation.
Our next P and F meeting will be held on the 11th June at 7pm in the school hall. All parents are welcome.
Tell Them From Me Survey
We are inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and strategic planning process. Our Cyclic Review will be held in August 2019 and the data received from these surveys will be integral in our plans going forward.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at Sacred Heart.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL: www.tellthemfromme.com/7tz54 The survey will remain open until Friday 7 June. You can survey at any time during this window and surveys take approximately 20 minutes to complete. All remaining, open surveys will be automatically closed on Friday 7 June at 4:30pm.
I will be absent for a number of days next week due to professional learning commitments and attendance at the NSW Catholic Principals Association Conference. The conference focus is Faith, Learning and Wellbeing. If you have any concerns I can be reached through the school office or Mrs Kelly and Mr Brierley will be leading the school in my absence.
