SCHOOL PHOTOS FRIDAY - SUMMER UNIFORM

P and F meeting  15th March 7pm

Capture_new_logo.JPGDear Parents and Carers

When all seems helpless and too hard - we pray! We pray for the people in Australia who are devastated by the loss of family and homes, for our local communities

facing flood and damage, for the citizens of the Ukraine who are fighting to the last to keep their country safe and free. For all in our community who have their troubles and trials we pray.  Accompaniment is sometimes all we can do in very difficult situations that we can't fix for others. We can accompany them on their journey, commiserate with them, listen to them, we can pray for them. I hope that you have all managed to stay safe and as dry as possible and that all of your families are also safe.

The photo (to the right) is St Mary’s Cathedral last Wednesday night, in the rain, lit by the Ukraine flag.

This morning we used our promotion of Clean Up Australia Day to also promote volunteers. As the SES trucks with boats on them streamed past the school yesterday they also took the time to let us know that they would be too busy to visit the students this week to talk about the work they do. So many of the good works that happen in every community happen because of the many volunteers that make things happen and keep the wheels turning. So today we asked the children to “volunteer” to clean up Sacred Heart to help our school recover from the wild rain and wind. Instilling a sense of service for others and community helps young people think of others as they grow and mature. I have included the prayer the Environment team shared with us at assembly this morning:

A Clean up Australia Day Prayer

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe

and in the smallest of your creatures.

You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.

Bring healing to our lives,

that we may protect the world and not prey on it,

that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.

Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain

at the expense of the poor and the earth.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,

to be filled with awe and contemplation,

to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature

as we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day.

Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle

for justice, love and peace.

Amen

Pope Francis, Laudato Si

Goals Setting meetings feedback

We had a large number of responses to our goal setting meetings feedback. Thank you for those who filled out the short survey - the feedback was mostly overwhelmingly positive and parents stated that they found the meetings really beneficial. In terms of changes many parents said the formats were good. Some said they would like more time and others that they would like either a copy of the goals before or after the meetings. On a rating scale of 5 the average score was 4.7 out of 5 so we feel we have come close to finding a good balance for the meetings.

We will schedule the next meetings in Week 5, Term Two.  This will take the place of the end of term report interview as we feel that this is a more valuable meeting that will help shape and define new goals for second semester and will mean that when the reports come out there will be no surprises at the grades or goals contained within. As restrictions ease we should be able to have more parents come on site and we can resume quick catchups and meetings onsite between parents and teachers.

Please see the article below regarding the Sacred Heart Parent engagement Series 2 commencing from 16th March.

Our Heartfelt morning coffee is cancelled for tomorrow but will resume next week. We had a lovely turn up last week.

We have had a number of Covid cases last week but they continue to remain low.

Last Friday we farewelled Mrs Michelle Kelly who will be on maternity leave for the rest of 2022. The P and F surprised Mr Brierley on Monday morning with a beautiful gift for Emily and himself. The birth of their first child is imminent and is such an exciting time for them. Mr Brierley will take two weeks paternity leave over the coming weeks. For any matters that you would normally refer to Nick please feel free to contact me.

Open Day - Friday the 18th March 9.30am prospective students in 2023.

Our Open Day usually aligns with Catholic Schools Week so this year it will be held on Friday the 18th of March at 9.30am. Please let friends and family know that it is coming up. Sydney Catholic Schools has prepared a new online enrolment portal that is ready for our Open Day so if you are enrolling a sibling it might be good to utilise this new system.  Please go to the enrolment tab on our website and click on "Enrol Now" : shmosman.catholic.edu.au

Carline Safety Reminder
In order to make carline as safe and as quick as possible it should only be used by families/carers where the children can independently get into the car, put their own seatbelt on and they should be able to get out of the out of the car by themselves in the morning.
Parents and children should not get out of the car, use the street side door for children or let children put bags in or out of the boot.
If children are not independent enough to do this it would be better to use other methods to pick them up as these would be safer for them.
We continue to receive numerous complaints from residents advising that they are unable to get out of their own driveways at carline pick up times. Please be mindful that residents also need to pick up their own children and therefore need to get their cars out of their driveways.  The residents are aware that parents queue for unnecessarily long periods of time whilst waiting in carline which causes the issues.
Please see the fines and limitations of our Carline area.  Please note it is not a waiting area and any car that remains longer than 2 minutes in this zone may incur the following fines:

Cars in carline may not overtake each other.  One of our children was almost hit by a car today.  Please be patient, obey the rules and consider our residents.

This term will end with our Staff Development Day on the Eucharist. School will finish for the term on Thursday the 7th April. Our second Staff Development Day for the year will be held on Tuesday the 26th April. Term 2 will commence for students on Wednesday the 27th April.on

Regards
