Years 3-6 don't forget to bring your instrument to school tomorrow.

Dear Parents and Carers

Week Four of school brings us very close to one of the pivotal events in the Church’s calendar - Lent. Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent - it is traditionally a time when Catholics take time to reflect on their actions in this world and their relationship to God. With some restrictions easing I would like to take the opportunity to let you know that we have a 7.45am Friday mass each week that is a community mass for busy people. Mass is generally finished by 8.15am. We would love you to join us at this early morning mass. Students in Years 5 and 6 may attend by themselves (teachers will attend the mass and walk them back to school) and students in Kinder through to Year 4 can attend with parents.

Our Heartfelt morning coffee will begin next week. It starts after drop off (8.30am) at the parish kitchen (outside the parish hall). Come along and have a chat with Mary Lozina, our family educator and members of the school leadership team as well as other parents. A great chance to reconnect.

A new supply of RAT tests has arrived and will come home today with your eldest child. We understand they are to be used at your discretion and we believe they are the last ones that will be delivered to the school. We have had word today that cohorting will finish next week which means the classes can mingle again on the playground and our Kinder can spend time with their buddies which they will all be very excited by. Rules around masks and visitors on site are also changing. Our SCS briefing is on Thursday so if there are any confirmed changes regarding visitors and masks I will send a note out. Our Covid cases remain low compared to many other schools so thank you again for assistance.

Bookings for our goal setting meetings are open and we hope you will take advantage of these zoom meetings. The teachers have gone to enormous amounts of extra work to set these meetings up with goals and benchmarks. I do hope that it is a positive and beneficial meeting for each student in the school. Our Term 2 meetings will be a mix of in person interviews and zoom for those who find them more convenient.

We seem to have just gotten the year started and we are preparing for our Open Day for prospective students in 2023. Our Open Day usually aligns with Catholic Schools Week so this year it will be held on Friday the 18th of March at 9.30am. Please let friends and family know that it is coming up. Sydney Catholic Schools is preparing a new online enrolment portal that will be ready after our Open Day so if you are enrolling a sibling it might be good to wait until that is ready to go.  We will advise further on this soon.

The K-2 Reading Session was held this morning with quite a number of attendees. This session is a very helpful one for parents of early readers and for parents wanting to volunteer in the classroom. Please watch this space for our other sessions. Each session will be uploaded to a school YouTube channel at a later date for our parents to access.

Yesterday you will have received notice from our Sports Club regarding the introduction of the Max Doohan Award for good sportsmanship. We shared the news with the students this morning. Many parents have indicated that they are really pleased that this award has been initiated at Sacred Heart.  I have included the information regarding this award again in the newsletter today. Thank you to Tim O’Connor the Sports Club President for the work he has done in ensuring that this award becomes an important part of the culture of our sporting community. Thank you to the Sports Club for their support of the award and donation to Max’s charity. Fiona and Julian, Max’s parents are very grateful to the Sports Club for honouring Max’s memory in this way.

This term will end with our Staff Development Day on the Eucharist. School will finish for the term on Thursday the 7th April. Our second Staff Development Day for the year will be held on Tuesday the 26th April. Term 2 will commence for students on Wednesday the 27th April.

Regards
