THE MAX DOOHAN GOOD SPORT AWARD
Dear Parents and Carers,
On behalf of the Sacred Heart Sports Club Committee I am pleased to announce the launch of the “Max Doohan Good Sport Award”.
Max attended Sacred Heart Mosman from 2012 to 2018 before going on to Marist Catholic College North Shore from Year 7. Max sadly passed away in early 2021 and is greatly missed by the Sacred Heart community.
The Max Doohan Good Sport Award will reward and recognise those players who consistently demonstrate a positive attitude to training and playing. To those who co-operate with coaches and managers and show good grace in the way they interact with team mates and the opposition.
Max was the epitome of a great team mate. Someone who put the interests of the team first, always. Max adored being part of a team with his Sacred Heart mates. This continued after primary school as he relished the chance to play socially and catch up with friends who had gone their separate ways at different schools. Max always gave it his absolute all. Soccer, rugby 7s, AFL, basketball, swimming and his great love, cricket – he did them all recognising the need to keep fit and healthy.
The Max Doohan Good Sports Award will be presented to one person from each year group at the end of each season for Basketball, Netball and Football.
Nominations will be called for from team coaches/managers with final recipients to be decided by the respective Sports Club Committee Co-ordinators with input from the external coaches.
The winners will be presented their awards at Assembly.
The Sacred Heart Sports Club have made a donation to Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in memory of Max. In consultation with Max’s parents, Fiona and Julian, we are thrilled that we are able to honour Max’s life with this award.
Finally a quick update on our Sports:
Football - Registrations are now open for Sacred Heart Football closing 25th February 2022. Playing football for Sacred Heart is focused on community spirit and inclusiveness- no experience necessary! Sacred Heart football has a long history of helping our school community experience the joy of football by making it simple, fun and rewarding. We partner with XLR8 to provide our volunteer coaches with professional coaching plans and on the ground support during training. Our first training session for the year will be Thursday 31 March 2022 with games commencing Saturday 2 April 2022. To register click the link: Register
Netball - We are just completing registrations for the 2022 netball season which starts at the beginning of April. So far we have had over 68 players register for the netball competition and are hoping to have at least 8 teams in the competition. Grading for netball juniors began on Thursday 17th February. Jacqui Donohoe (head netball coach) has been assisting Andre De-Villiers provide netball tuition in Physical Education classes at school.
Basketball – We had 202 registrations for Comp 1 which commenced on the 5th of Feb and will finish on the 2nd of April with finals for those who make it on the 9th of April. There are not as many divisions this year for some age groups and we recognise a few teams are not in the correct division and finding weekend games a little challenging. New 3 x 3 playing format seems to be a hit with the Yr 1's with lots of positive feedback from parents.
