Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Staff,
I’m sure that our students have been rehearsing their dancing moves in preparation for their long awaited School Disco this Saturday. Thank you to the long list of parents who have volunteered for this event – I’m sure that the girls and boys of Sacred Heart appreciate your efforts. For me personally, the word “disco” evokes memories of the 1970’s – including very loud shirts and flared trousers!
This week is a special time for our Year 6 students as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in our Parish Church. Through Jesus, in receiving the Sacrament from Bishop Terry Brady, these students will also receive the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Pope Francis tells us that we should “thank the Lord for the grace of our confirmation, and that filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, we may always mirror Christ’s presence in our relations with others, our openness to those in need, and our living witness to the Gospel message of joy and peace”.
We can reflect on the gifts of the Holy Spirit and what they mean for us in our daily lives.
Wisdom helps us recognize the importance of others and the importance of keeping God central in our lives.
Understanding is the ability to comprehend the meaning of God's message.
Knowledge is the ability to think about and explore God's revelation, and also to recognize there are mysteries of faith beyond us.
Counsel is the ability to see the best way to follow God's plan when we have choices that relate to him.
Fortitude is the courage to do what one knows is right.
Piety helps us pray to God in true devotion.
Fear of the Lord is the feeling of amazement before God, who is all-present, and whose friendship we do not want to lose.
It is important that we keep our girls and boys from Year 6, along with those Catholic students from other nearby schools, including students from Blessed Sacrament School, in our prayers.
With best wishes,
Steve Conlon

Our Lady Help of Christians/Bicentenary of Catholic Education National Mass
On Monday, the School & Vice Captains accompanied Mr Brierley & myself to celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lady Help of Christians Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral. The National Mass was also a celebration for the Bicentenary of Catholic Education. It was a beautiful experience & we were honoured to be part of it.

Year Six Confirmation this week
This week, Year Six students will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is a special time for our Year Six students in their journey of Catholic Faith. We will keep them in our prayers & we wish them all the very best.
“May your hearts be filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.”
