Dear Parents and Carers
Green and Clean at Sacred Heart
You may have noticed a very big focus for this year is to become more green and clean at Sacred Heart. We have recently been educating staff and students about our waste habits and how to manage the amount of waste from Sacred Heart that goes into landfill. Please see the Year Six note regarding their leadership in this area.
Why do we want Sacred Heart to be more sustainable?
A number of reasons: to save money, to reduce waste, but one stands out: it is the life (and the dignity with which we live it) we live and the legacy we leave behind. Pope Francis puts it beautifully in Laudato Si…
“What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up? This question not only concerns the environment in isolation; the issue cannot be approached piecemeal. When we ask ourselves what kind of world we want to leave behind, we think in the first place of its general direction, its meaning and its values. Unless we struggle with these deeper issues, I do not believe that our concern for ecology will produce significant results. But if these issues are courageously faced, we are led inexorably to ask other pointed questions: What is the purpose of our life in this world? Why are we here? What is the goal of our work and all our efforts? What need does the earth have of us? It is no longer enough, then, simply to state that we should be concerned for future generations. We need to see that what is at stake is our own dignity. Leaving an inhabitable planet to future generations is, first and foremost, up to us. The issue is one which dramatically affects us, for it has to do with the ultimate meaning of our earthly sojourn.” Paragraph 160 Laudato Si
Open Day. Thank you Year Six
A very big thank you to our teachers and Year Six who welcomed visitors to our Open Day last Friday. Our visitors were very impressed by our Year Six students who showed their deep knowledge of the school and their love of and loyalty to their school. They were excellent ambassadors for Sacred Heart. It was good to see a number of our siblings at the Open Day as well. If sibling enrolments could be in as soon as possible then we can begin our interview process after the holidays.
Marist North Shore - Year 5: applications for Year 7 2023 due soon
A reminder to Year 5 parents that Marsit North Shore applications are due by 31st of March for Year 7 2023. I am very happy to do Principal references for the college.
Thank you
Many thanks to all of our Sacred Heart community who have supported Max Doohan’s family over the last two weeks. Our community has pulled together to ensure the family knows how loved Max was and how we will honour our commitment to look after Archie in the years to come.
Never see a need without doing something about it.. (Mother Theresa)
You may have noticed that outside our parish church is a statue of Jesus on a cross. The cross had fallen into disrepair recently and was rotted and unsafe. A number of students brought it to our attention and wanted to raise money to fix the cross. A huge thank you to the Broomhead family who actually refurbished the cross. Will (Year 3) mentioned it to his dad, Justin, and they set about having the cross replaced and refurbished. Thank you to Will and his family for their time and generosity.
Have a wonderful week!
