Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we began the week with a liturgy to celebrate 200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia. It is a reminder of how generous our Catholic Community has been for many years as Catholic Schools only received their first round of government funding, in over 100 years, in 1962. I have had the privilege of working fulltime in Catholic schools for over 38 years and have seen the many hard working teachers and parents who have built faith filled and supportive communities where children thrive and grow. I know our teachers are enormously proud of our profession and our school. The following link shows the timeline, growth and generosity of the many orders who established schools in Australia.
Welcome back!
It was with great joy that we welcomed parents back to school last week. We had a very happy group of Kindergarten parents who saw their children receive their first PAWS awards. Hopefully we will see more parents over the coming months.
School Photos
Thank you to all our parents who ensured the children looked very smart in their summer uniforms last week for their school photos. The children seem very proud of their uniform and their school. We appreciate the effort families are making with uniforms. It certainly makes a difference.
Cross Country Trials
Thank you to Mr Brierley and Mr DeVilliers who ensured the Cross Country Trials ran smoothly last Thursday. Thank you to the parent volunteers who assisted on the day. The top four runners in each age group will now progress to the next carnival where they will compete against other Archdiocesan athletes from other Archdiocesan schools.
Sacred Heart Sports Club
Our sports club committee met last night. The meeting was chaired by the new Sports Club President, Mr Tim O’Connor. Thank you to Mr DeVilliers and Mr Brierley who also attended. Our basketball comp. is winding down for the winter and netball and soccer are gearing up to begin their season. Many thanks to all the volunteers who give their time so generously to the club and our students.
Open DAY for 2022 students
Our Open Day for prospective students for 2022 is being held this Friday. There are two sessions being held on Friday. Bookings are required. If you know any friends or family in the area who are thinking of having their child attend Sacred Heart next year can you let them know that they should apply soon. If you have a younger sibling who will be coming to Sacred Heart next year can you please get their enrolment application to the office by the end of this term. We will start our sibling enrolment interviews after the holidays so that we will know how many spaces we have for new students after we have accounted for our current families already in the school.
School Athletics Carnival
Years 2-6 will be attending the school Athletics Carnival at Narrabeen this Friday weather permitting. As the prediction is for some rain can you ensure your child has a rain jacket and hat with them in case it rains while we are at the field. A reminder that Years 2-6 should bring their own food and not order from the online canteen on Friday.
Mass for Max Thursday 18th March 7.45am
If you or your family or friends are coming to the Mass for Max tomorrow morning can you please let them know they should arrive well before mass in order to sign in. Both side entrances will be open.
New Religious Education Co ordinator
Due to changes Sydney Catholic Schools made to the roles of Instructional Leader and Religious Education Co ordinator we were informed recently that Mrs Edwards could not hold the dual role. Mrs Edwards will continue to hold the role of Instructional Specialist - Co ordinator 3 and we have have recently advertised and interviewed for the Religious Education Co ordinator. I am delighted to be able to announce that our new REC is Miss Kristen Jackson. Kristen began her journey to leadership a number of years ago and has worked very closely with our REC and parish priests for a number of years. We congratulate Kristen and know that she will do a wonderful job as a leader in our school.
Thank you!!
Yesterday I received a beautiful bunch of flowers (pictured here) presented to me for my birthday by our parent representatives. It made my day a really lovely one.
