Dear Parents and Carers
As we begin Term 4 we are filled with a sense of hope about the future. I’m sure the warm weather, the smiles of the children and the happy teachers brings with it a sense that we are learning to live in a different way which has some positives and makes us hopeful of a brighter future.
Staff Formation Day
On Monday our staff held their annual spirituality day. We follow the Sydney Catholic Schools staff spiritual formation process of a three year cycle of Head, Heart and Hands. Last year we went to Cana Farm to help out with the planting and cooking as part of the Hands process. This year as part of our Head process we looked at what our faith meant to us and where it had taken us in our lives. Father Phil led us in a session on faith. It was a very valuable part of the day. He spoke about how our concept of faith is linked to who we see God as. If we see Him as a loving and caring God then our faith life will reflect that. As a continuation of our day we hope to look at our current vision and mission statements to see if they reflect what we are doing and where we hope to go in the future.
Sustainability
With our approach to Deep Learning and our focus on Science this year many of our classes have been looking at recycling and sustainability. We have been joined by an enthusiastic group of Year Five students and Year Six leaders who have been helping to educate and introduce recycling at Sacred Heart. This week we have introduced the children to our four recycling bins. Our environmental team is supporting all our students in learning which products can be recycled and which go to landfill. Thank you to Mrs Carvalho for her passion and enthusiasm for this project and for educating the staff and students in this vital work.
Some reminders for Term 4:
- Please see the attachment in the newsletter for our revised Term 4 menu for the canteen. There are some exciting changes to the summer menu that I'm sure the children will love.
- As well as hats can every child bring a water bottle each day as our shared bubblers are no longer available to the children. They can refill their water bottles during the day but not drink from the bubblers.
- Can any change in going home arrangements be communicated to the office before 2pm as these messages are given on a daily basis to students after second lunch.
- Medical appointments and other appointments should ideally be made outside school hours. If they can’t, please send an email to the class teacher and info@shmosman.catholic.edu.au (ideally the day before) letting them know the time, reason and who will do the pickup for the appointment. As you can appreciate it is a much slower process with parents unable to collect from inside the school. Any regular appointments during school hours must be approved by the principal. Parents should apply in writing stating the reason.
- Can you ensure that if you use carline that you obey the traffic rules (and show our school in a positive light to our neighbours). Please try not to block the roundabout at Belmont Road and be mindful and allow our neighbours to enter and exit their properties. To this end parents should not be using phones (unless handsfree) while in the line so they can assist in keeping the traffic moving and not frustrating our neighbours by being unaware of their movements.
