Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week was a fun week of learning (who could forget the exploding watermelon!). Please take time to view the week’s highlights:
WE ARE GREAT WRITERS!
This week is calmer but no less exciting as we look to see how our students have grown and changed in their learning. As you know writing has been a big focus in the school over the last few years and we are beginning to reap the benefits with improved results because of the teachers and student’s efforts.
Please take the time to look at some examples of what our young writers can achieve :
How do I support my child to improve their writing?
- Maximum exposure to either reading books or having books read to them helps a great deal. If children are exposed to many different styles of writing and many different characters then they naturally will be better writers.
- Having fun and playing with writing helps students become risk takers and better writers. Making a simple sentence more complex by adding adjectives and adverbs helps make writing more interesting.
- Writing often and with a purpose improves writing - this week Year 5 are having a Zoom meeting with their favourite author from England who they took the time to write to and ask her about her writing.
- Using oral language as a first port of call. Have children retell the stories they know to help develop their knowledge of language.
COVID SAFE WEEK
Good morning everyone and Happy Monday! I hope we all had a wonderful weekend playing sport and spending time with family and friends.
This week’s PAWS focus is Be Safe - particularly, doing our part to be COVID SAFE.
Due to the challenges the world is facing now, there are many things that we have had to put on hold. However, not everything has changed. Playing with your friends at school and making memories is still the same; the smiles you receive from your teachers and the amazing experiences you have in your classroom - Still the same!
Not all is lost and gone forever. We still have each other, our smiles, our positive attitudes and our faith. Faith in God and faith that the world will be back to normal.
So help us, we need to do our part. We need to take extra care of each other. But what does this look like?
Firstly, washing your hands often. As soon as you enter the classroom, when you leave the classroom and when you cough or sneeze into your hand. Also, after you go to the bathroom as well. That’s always essential. If you have some sanitiser, that’s great too!
Secondly, social distancing. I know this is hard at school. This looks like not hugging your friends, no hands on and unfortunately no hi fives. Show your appreciation by using your words!
Next is kindness. Not only is being COVID Safe looking after our physical health, but our mental health as well. Asking your friends how they are, being respectful and asking questions of your friends and teachers to make sure that they are ok. Some days we are ok! But some days, all of us need a bit of extra love and consideration. Even adults. Be kind, be considerate and be respectful.
Finally, wearing a mask. You may have seen that people are wearing masks more frequently around our homes. To support each other being COVID Safe, teachers and students can wear a mask this coming Friday. You may also choose to wear a mask prior to this.
So let’s all do our part to be COVID Safe. Wash our hands, Social distance, be kind and wear a mask. Have a great day, eat colourful food and I hope you all made your beds today!
