Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Friday we held our first whole school mass since we had our Opening Mass on the 7th February. While we watched from classrooms and Year 6 attended the mass there was a sense of togetherness that having a shared focus, values and purpose brings. It was a great opportunity to explain some parts of the mass as we had a view from the altar and from Father Phil’s point of view. It was a big effort to co ordinate the on site mass as well as the streamed mass. Many thanks to Mrs Edwards, Mrs Lozina, Miss Conway, Miss Jackson, Mr Brierley and Liam Jowitt for co-ordinating and preparing the mass in the church and online. Thank you to our Year six teachers and our Year six leaders who organised fun activities for the students K-6 throughout the day.
You should have been able to access your child’s reports yesterday. Please note the new format contains an effort mark for the children's work at school. They may also have a remark about the online behaviours your child exhibited. For Religion, English and Mathematics the teachers have written dot points to highlight the achievements of each student and set out a few goals for them for the next semester. There is a general comment that highlights the general learning behaviours and observations of your child in class. Please give the teachers feedback about the new format as we have worked particularly hard on the changes as well as on trying to keep the language jargon free. As you have a good understanding and knowledge of your child’s learning behaviours after their time of online learning at home I expect that the Parent Teacher interviews this year will really be a partnership between yourselves and the teachers where you can acknowledge the positives about your child’s learning and finalise their future goals together.
We have had concerns from parents and local residents about our car line. Some of those concerns include cars stopping in the no stopping section of Cardinal Street or lining up in the pedestrian crossing area. Residents around the roundabout at Prince and Bardwell are concerned about blocking the intersection as well as residents who have concerns about parents picking up from Wudgong Street and double parking. These concerns are very valid as they impact our neighbours who we do want to keep positive relations with. The other concerns do indicate that we have a potential safety issue if children are moving between parked cars. Please try to drive and park around the school as safely as possible at all times.
We are currently interviewing for classes for 2021 (Kinder as well as other groups). If your child will be leaving the school at the end of the year can you please let the office know by the end of the term as we have a number of students on waiting lists for several classes.
Thank you to the parents who have answered the canteen survey. We aim to consolidate this next Wednesday and give to our provider in order to enhance the service at school. If you haven't already done so and would like to complete the survey, the link is here.
Please see the revised date for our Staff Development Day for Term 3. We have cancelled the Monday Week 1 day and so students should return on Monday the 20th July. We will finish Term 3 on Thursday the 24th September and hold our Science SDD on Friday the 25th September.
Regards
Julie Caldwell
