Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to the many parents who attended our Parent Information Evening last week. I have sent the notes via Compass for those who couldn't attend. One of the things I did not mention on the evening was the importance of reading for all children. If anyone asked the secret to success in school I’m sure all teachers would resoundingly say it is to read often and widely.
Your children will soon receive logins for the Premiers Reading Challenge. This is a fun way to get children to read and they are given a large list from which to choose. At the end of the Challenge they are acknowledged at an assembly with a certificate from the Premier. We have a number of children who complete this challenge every year. This year we will also have a Sacred Heart Challenge to increase the number of children who participate. Mrs Jago will send the information home soon.
Thank you to our P and F who met last night to look at our events for the year and the way they can support the school and parents. The P and F is a vital group within the school who provide direction and leadership. Thank you to the following parents who have taken on roles for 2020:
President - Chris Janes
Vice President - TBC
Treasurer - Stewart Old
Secretary - Steph Bailey
Committee Members - Stephan Grzmielewska, Clare Tynan, Rachel Steer, Paul Graham, Marissa Koop, Emma O’Lone
Parent Liaison - Alison Ramadge, Jenny Winter
This morning I attended the Marist Commencement Mass at North Sydney. It is an important year for them in joining our network and the last as a single sex school. The reflection was led by the school Captain, an ex student of Sacred Heart. Millie and Antony our school leaders who attended the mass with me, were excellent models of leadership.
Next week we begin the season of Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday (26th February) with a mass for Years 3-6 at 12.00pm in the church and a liturgy for K-2 in the hall at the same time. All parents are welcome.
Thank you to all our coaches, managers and administrators who are currently working with our students who have signed up for basketball and are currently registering for netball and soccer. It is a great deal of work and it is appreciated by everyone in the community.
Parent representatives for each year group are currently being finalised. Please see the list below for your class representatives and their contact details. We thank them for giving up their time.

Sacred Heart values the input and time given by the many volunteers who help create safe and productive learning environments for our students.
Persons seeking to volunteer in any capacity eg excursions, reading groups, Athletics or Swimming Carnivals in an SCS school MUST complete this SCS Induction each year and obtain a Working With Children Check (WWCC) from the Roads and Maritime Services. This is a compulsory requirement.
If you wish to become a volunteer this year you must complete the Volunteers Working with Children (WWC) Accreditation Process (WWC Accreditation Process), which involves being inducted in child protection, reading and understanding the obligations and procedures under the relevant child protection legislation and SCS policies, as well as providing your Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance number for verification by SCS. Please click on the following link to complete this process.
As this is the first time we are requesting volunteers to use this platform, each person will be required to follow this process. It is expected that all volunteers (including parents, family members) will support this process if they wish to be approved to volunteer in an SCS school.
If you have any further questions, please contact the school office.

An important safety message from Ausgrid
A safety message from Ausgrid
The recent severe weather conditions have resulted in fallen trees and powerlines across the State and power outages in some areas.
As a result, Ausgrid has been working to ensure the network is safe and to restore power as quickly as possible.
It is always important to remember to stay safe:
- Watch out for electrical hazards hidden in storm debris; trees and flood waters can hide fallen powerlines
- Fallen powerlines are very dangerous; do not touch fallen powerlines and always assume they are live
- If you see a fallen powerline, stay at least 8 metres (as long as a school bus) away from it and anything it may be touching. Tell an adult and call triple zero (000)
Please see attached flyer in regards to a vacant position.
