Dear Parents and Carers,
Our school motto is Faith Generosity and Courage. These are the particular Christian values that we encourage and follow at Sacred Heart. Because we are a faith based school this is our key value. We encourage the children to display generosity (we can see this currently with our Year Sixes who are caring for their Kinder buddies) and we encourage our children to display courage in standing up for themselves and others. In this way we feel we become more aligned with the teachings and practice of Jesus.
Please save the date for our Parent Information Evening on Wednesday the 12th February. The evening will begin at 6pm in the hall where we will present this year’s goals and last years achievements. You will meet all teachers as well. At about 6.30pm parents will move to classrooms for a grade information session from teachers. This will take approximately half an hour and then will be repeated for parents who have two children. Copies of the presentations will be available for parents who have more than two children.
Some classes currently do not have volunteer Class Parents. If you would like to volunteer for your class please contact our parent liaison on the following email address:parentliaison2020@gmail.com
Our Opening School Mass for 2020 is this Friday at 9.15am. All parents are invited especially our Year Six parents as they will be introduced as leaders of the school.
Thank you to all our coaches, managers and administrators who are currently working with our students who have signed up for basketball and are currently registering for netball and soccer. It is a great deal of work and it is appreciated by everyone in the community.
Regards
Julie Caldwell
Volunteers 2020
Sacred Heart values the input and time given by the many volunteers who help create safe and productive learning environments for our students.
Persons seeking to volunteer in any capacity eg excursions, reading groups, Athletics or Swimming Carnivals in a Sydney Catholic School MUST complete this SCS Induction each year and obtain a Working With Children Check (WWCC) from the Roads and Maritime Services. This is a compulsory requirement.
If you wish to become a volunteer this year you must complete the Volunteers Working with Children (WWC) Accreditation Process (WWC Accreditation Process), which involves being inducted in child protection, reading and understanding the obligations and procedures under the relevant child protection legislation and SCS policies, as well as providing your Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance number for verification by SCS. Please click on the following link
As this is the first time we are requesting volunteers to use this platform, each person will be required to follow this process. It is expected that all volunteers (including parents, family members) will support this process if they wish to be approved to volunteer in an SCS school.
If you have any further questions, please contact the school office.
Please note that the AGM is Tuesday 18 February at 7pm in the school hall. All welcome!
Mr. Rick Grech from Marist College North Shore will meet with Year 4 and 5 students next Tuesday afternoon (11th February) at 2.10pm. Parents are also warmly invited to come along and listen to Rick's presentation and speak to him at the end of the session.
The take up of music lessons with Music Mates has been fantastic with 60 people signing up already! It's great that there's such a strong interest in music and we can't wait to get started. Here's some quick points for the week.
- The $100 Creative Kids Voucher is eligible for use with all of the Music Mates sessions. This means the group programs are amazing value!
- The Introduction to Music (Kindergarten), Percussion Group (Year 1) and Ukulele Group (Year 2) have lots of space available. These sessions are loads of fun, affordable (especially when you apply the $100 Creative Kids Voucher) and are a great way to start the day!
- There are currently 9 spaces left in the Rock Orchestra program (Year 3 - 6). This awesome program sees students learn 5 instruments across 5 different songs!
- We're currently allocating everyone into their lesson slots and will have this finalised this week. Please make sure you check your times via the student portal. We will do our very best to accommodate your requests.
- Introduction to Music - Monday 7:45am
- Percussion Group - Tuesday 7:45am
- Ukulele Group - Thursday 7:45am
- Rock Orchestra - Mon/Tues/Wed between 3 - 4pm
