Dear Parents and Carers,
At yesterday’s End of Year Mass the following reading (about Jesus’ teaching) was an appropriate one to end our very big year. Don’t forget what I teach you. Always remember what I tell you to do. My teaching will give you a long and prosperous life. Never let go of loyalty and faithfulness. Tie them around your neck: write them on your heart.
Today we farewell our Year Six students and a number of families. All our leaving teachers, families and students have been acknowledged at our Graduation mass and end of year mass Graduation. It is very hard to say goodbye but we also acknowledge that in order to grow, change needs to happen. At the end of year mass I thanked and acknowledged staff, students, our priests and parents. Here is the document with the acknowledgements: -
Thank you to the staff who chose to donate to the St Vincent de Paul bushfire appeal instead of our regular Christmas gift giving to each other. Here is the link in case any families want to do the same. SVDP bushfire appeal.
Christmas can be such a happy time but for some families it can be a time of stress and strain. I know this will be our first Chritsmas without my father. He was the king of Christmas and so it will be a very different time without him. Karen Young’s words describe so well the way that we can remember those who won’t be with us this Christmas. Link
Yesterday the children met their teachers for 2020 and spent some time in their new classrooms. We do this to ensure the children have a confident start to their new year.

Uniform for Term One
Schools are often judged by the public on how we wear our uniform. If you are shopping during the holidays for uniforms can you please ensure that the children have black leather shoes for their summer uniform and trainers (not basketball shoes) for their sports days. The children need white socks for their sports days.
Can parents be vigilant about sending hats to school in Term One. We have had a large number of children who are not wearing their hats on the playground.

End of Year message from the P & F
As the 2019 school year draws to a close I would like to take this opportunity to thank this year’s committee as well as all the others who have taken time to help out with activities this year. I would also like to personally thank Julie, our Principal and all the staff of SHM for their support around what we have done and their involvement. We also acknowledge the enormous efforts Julie and her staff have made teaching and guiding our children this school year.
As you know we took the decision to step away from fundraising and to concentrate a little more on community based events that bring the school community together. We took time out from having the mid year major fundraiser and replaced this with our Sacred Heart Celebrates function early in the year whilst still having the Spring Fair, Mother and Fathers’ Day breakfasts, School Disco and from time to time information nights on topics we felt were of importance to parents and carers.
The feedback we have received has been very positive whereby we have used the grounds of the school and providing events to come together in a more relaxed atmosphere and only recently the successful Christmas drinks where we combined each class was also an overwhelmingly successful addition to the school calendar.
Jacqui McCarthy and MJ Whitson have contributed many hours acting as our Parent Liaison and we acknowledge and thank them for the wonderful results they have achieved during their year long tenure. We also wish to thank our class parents for their time and effort.
We still did manage to raise some funds this year that will go to SHM School and will be spent wisely on things that will benefit each of our children at the school.
The P & F met recently at its last meeting and we have mapped out dates for the various activities that you will see on the 2020 school calendar.
I encourage you to get involved in rolling out these events. It has been said many times before but our children really do love to see you their parents and carers, at the school and involved. However big or small a role you can take on is greatly appreciated.
On top of all of this the P & F is also here to listen to any feedback and I urge you to reach out to me or any of the committee members with any other suggestions or issues you want to raise so we can try and cater for the school community in 2020.
At the AGM to be held in first term we will elect a new committee so I I urge anybody who might be interested in being involved on the committee to reach out to me as any new faces are always very welcome.
On behalf of the P & F Executive I want to wish everybody a Happy and Holy Christmas and look forward to hearing from you in 2020.
Kind Regards
Chris Janes
SHM P & F President

Wow! What a wonderful year we have had, jam packed with many events, successes and lots of books read!
A final big thank you to our amazing Library Monitors and parents who have supported the Library this year, it is very much appreciated and a huge help to us.
The Holiday Break is time for us all to ‘recharge our batteries’ ready for the start of a new decade – 2020, can’t quite believe it.
Remember, you will never be bored or lonely with a good book. Please encourage your children to keep reading during the holidays.
Whether it be going through cook books and recipes to make a special meal to share, or scanning those catalogues ready for the Boxing Day sales, keeping World Cup Cricket Scores, or navigating maps on your iPhone to reach your holiday destination, it doesn’t matter – it’s all reading.
Wishing you all a peaceful, safe and joyous Festive Season.
Happy Reading
Cecilia and Josie
