Sacred Heart Celebrates! Ticket Sales Closing SOON
The P&F warmly invites all parents' and carers' to our parent social function for the year. This is the key parent event for the 2019 calendar. Saturday 23 March from 7pm to 10pm.With more than 250 tickets sold, a delicious menu planned and a ton of ice on order - we are very close to being ready to Celebrate! In order for us to ensure that this will be a hugely successful evening please click here to book your tickets.
This morning, we celebrated the beginning of our year with a Mass celebrated in our Sacred Heart church.
Each year, the Catholic Church guides its followers to particular themes so we can focus our thoughts and energy toward action. The theme chosen by Pope Francis for 2019 is "I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word".
What does this mean for our school? It means that we should Serve With Joy. You should always look to see how you can help to make a difference in the lives of others. Think about how you can use your passion to make someone else happier.
In our community, we have courageous and dedicated learners who thrive with help from loving parents, caring teachers and of course, Fr Phil and the supportive members of our Sacred Heart Parish. We are grateful for learning, for friendships and opportunities.
Regards
Julie
Volunteer Induction Session - Wednesday 13th February at 6pm sharp (15 min)
Sacred Heart values the input and time given by the many volunteers who help create safe and productive learning environments for our students.
Persons seeking to volunteer in any capacity eg excursions, reading groups, Athletics or Swimming Carnivals in an SCS school MUST complete this SCS Induction each year and obtain a Working With Children Check (WWCC) from Roads and Maritime Services. This is a compulsory requirement. Administration has a spreadsheet outlining who has a WWCC record for you to check against.
This Induction session will be held on our Parent Information Evening next Wednesday, 13th February at 6pm in the Year 6 classroom. Please note this meeting will start promptly at this time as it will need to conclude at 6:15pm.
Please attend this session if at all possible, as we will be limiting the amount of sessions being run this year.
It is expected that all volunteers (including parents, family members) will support this process if they wish to be approved to volunteer in an SCS school.

Term 1, Week 2
The concept of bread runs very deeply through our faith. We hear about bread as the ‘manna,’ which God provided for the Israelites during their travels in the desert. Jesus Christ was described as the “Bread of Life,” giving us spiritual nurturing during our journey on Earth. We are given our weekly “spiritual bread” through the gift of the Eucharist at Mass.
It comes as no surprise that the Gift of Bread Charity has had significant success in Marrickville, Lewisham, Erskenville and Balmain. The sharing of bread to the needy has always been a part of our Catholic faith. Through the Gift of Bread initiative, we not only share physical bread with our brothers and sisters; we share friendship and support. The Gift of Bread Mosman outreach service begins this week. Many helping hands have offered to pick up, pack and deliver bread to various youth and community centres in the area. There will also be a box of bread in the foyer of Sacred Heart Mosman. Please feel free to take a loaf. The bread is about friendship and caring. Give it to a neighbor. Start a conversation. Be that smile that someone needs today.

Our First SPaR for the year will be Thursday 14th February.

SPaR……….Stop,Pray,Reflect…

Would anyone like to volunteer at Vinnies?
We have two programs available.
Vinnies Local area:
This service involves working in pairs, visiting the needy for a short period to aid them for the week. The clients let you know how they are going and what they need for the week.
Vinnies Soup Making at Head Office, Lewisham
Make soup for the homeless with a friend. Vinnies has a kitchen facility that makes soup and sandwiches ,which get delivered every night at Central and Martin Place. Hours are between 10 and 1pm which makes it a perfect outreach project for parents who have school children. It’s very rewarding!
ANGELS FOOD SERVICE
Sacred Heart has an Angels food Service which is distributed to families in need and in crisis. If you know of anyone that might need a little help then please let us know. It isn’t how much money someone has, or lack thereof, it’s that someone in our community needs the wings of an angel, a little TLC. It is amazing how a meal made with love can help. If you would like to contribute a meal or if you know of a family who could use some support, please email info@shmosman.catholic.edu.au

Beginning of Year Mass
This morning, we celebrated our Beginning of Year Mass as a school community. Students from each grade had special roles within the Mass, with our new Kindergarten students simply learning all about what school Masses and what that means for them!
We also played our new school song for the first time. Of course, we are very lucky to be blessed with the musical talents of Ms Conroy who, with her musically inclined sibling Tom, wrote the music and lyrics. I look forward to the choir and student body becoming more familiar with the song as it details exactly the values that we as a school hope to encourage within each student in our community.

Student ICT Agreements
Thank you to all of the parents who have diligently sent back the student ICT agreements that are so crucial to safe and effective use of digital technologies while at school.
We would ask that any agreements not yet returned by students to their classroom teachers could be returned as soon as possible.
Cybersafety Week
This year, we will continue a strong focus on Cyber Safety at Sacred Heart. It is important that students know how to safely navigate the internet, as well as how best to safely participate and contribute to online conversations.
The staff believe it is crucial that students have the awareness and capabilities required to operate effectively in a digital environment. They are being taught to contribute online in safe and appropriate ways, and also to combat and appropriately deal with content that most would find challenging.
