Dear Parents and Carers
We are blessed as a school to have very dedicated parents who support us to help build community. This year we agreed to have a low key year without big demands on parents for fund raising and time commitments. The only fund raiser that we agreed should stay is the Spring Fair, not because of the funds it raises but because of the focus on the children. It is one of our community events that the children remember. Our ex students return, our neighbours turn up and children have a fun day with their families.
Can I ask that each family assist in some way towards the Spring Fair to ensure it is a great success. There are many ways that you can help:
Donating to the Pre Loved Stall
Purchasing your child’s artwork:
A reminder that this Friday is our Summer Fun Day mufti day. Children may wear fun summer clothes for a gold coin donation. This is an opportunity for the children to wear relaxed casual clothes and to begin the excitement and the lead up to our Spring Fair.
Please help us make this a very successful community event by prioritising your attendance and commitment to support this event as your children are the ones who will benefit through having a sense of belonging to a vibrant community.
Mathematics Workshop
With so much going on to prepare for the wonderfully exciting Summer Fun School Fair, let us help you feel organised with this little checklist.
Have you:
- Bought your child’s stunning Summer Fun self-portrait on Trybooking at www.trybooking.com/BFYWE ? Your child’s artwork has been beautifully mounted as a precious keepsake for you to treasure - and they’re only $10.
- Pre-purchased your children’s wristbands, tokens and Show Bags for the Fair on Trybooking at www.trybooking.com/BFYWE. We’ve included pictures of what’s inside each Show Bag here. You’ll save a lot by buying ahead of the Fair – don’t put it off.
- Donated your second-hand books, toys and games to the Pre-Loved Stall? Collections are taking place every morning and afternoon this week at the school gates.
- Confirmed your child’s entry to the Talent Show? Emails have been sent to all parents whose children have entered an act. They’ve got just under 2 weeks to perfect their performance, so please encourage them to practice, practice, practice!
- Encouraged your children to complete their Christmas Card designs? They need to bring their finished templates back to school by this Friday (8th November). Then you need to order your cards or gifts online at http://www.crazycamel.com.au/14108
- Signed up to be a Volunteer at the Fair? We need helpers from every year group and there are lots of jobs still vacant so please put your name down at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090f4faba82babf94-shmspring1
Also:
- It’s on again this year…The Golden Wristband Raffle! Purchase tickets to enter the draw to win a Golden Wristband for all the rides at the Summer Fun School Fair plus $30 worth of Tokens – total value $70!
Raffle tickets will be on sale before school every day for the rest of this week and start of next week, plus via Trybooking at www.trybooking.com/BFYWE There’s one prize to be won per year group, plus prizes for the 2 classes that sell the most raffle entries.
The winners will be drawn and announced in the school newsletter next Wednesday.
- And this Friday (8th November) is Summer Fun Mufti Day! Children are invited to wear their brightest, most colourful clothes to school to celebrate ‘Summer Fun’ and bring 2 gold coins to donate; 1 gold coin for Ice-block Friday and the other gold coin for the Mufti Day. All contributions will help our fundraising efforts.
It sounds like a lot – because it is a lot – but if you tick off each action, one by one, you’ll get through it.
Thanks for your involvement!
Sacred Heart had nine basketball teams representing the school in Albury last weekend. The basketball challenge has been running for 36 years and based on its popularity I’m sure it will continue for more years to come.
Twenty five Catholic schools from all over NSW travelled to Albury with most schools arriving on Friday given it was such a long way to travel from Sydney.
Our junior teams were made by combining students from years 3 and 4 whilst our senior teams were students from years 5 and 6. Before the tournament began on Saturday morning, a liturgy was held at 7am at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre. After the first day of competition, all the teams were graded into divisions. On the Sunday we played a knock-out style of competition. Two Sacred Heart teams that went through undefeated and won their division were the Senior Boys A (Division 1) who won against Albury A 24-17, and Senior Girls B (Division 3) who won against Goulburn PP 11-4. Our junior boys got to the Grand Final but unfortunately were defeated by North Albury A 23-4. In the Semi Finals we had a few unlucky losses with our Senior Girls A losing by a point in over time.
Everyone demonstrated our school motto and good sportsmanship throughout the weekend. We also had a challenge to make two new friends that were not from our school and I think just about everybody achieved that goal. We all had dinner together on the Saturday night and watched the rugby world cup when England defeated New Zealand. It was a great weekend and we cannot wait to participate and be spectators next year. Thank you to all members of the Sacred Heart community who worked on making this event possible.
Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing photos of the teams that participated.

Wow !! Almost half way through Term 4 already. Where has the year gone?
Our final day for borrowing books will be Friday 29/11/2019. Friday 6/12/2019 will be returns only.
Sincere thanks to parents who have helped their children return overdue books. There is still time to return any more outstanding, so please keep looking around home, in school bags and in tubs in the classrooms.
Our wonderful Premier’s Reading Challenge Students who completed their reading logs, have been waiting patiently for their certificates to commemorate their achievements. They should be delivered to school within the next couple of weeks.
We are also still waiting on books ordered from our guest author Lesley Gibbes during book week. Hopefully these will arrive soon too.
With Christmas fast approaching, consider giving the wonderful gift of books. There will be a final Scholastic Book Club catalogue in time for end of Term.
Please let us know in advance if there are special orders being purchased to help out Santa. We will make sure they go directly to him.
Happy Reading
Cecilia and Josie

It has been brought to our attention that there are a number of students crossing the road at drop off, and crossing at the dangerous junction of Cardinal Street and Military Road. Please remind your children that they must cross at the Pedestrian Crossing near the church. Can parents please monitor their children each morning to ensure they cross safely and enter the school gates unharmed.
Dear Parents,
As of Monday 28th October 2019 the new Flexi Schools cut off time for lunch orders will be 9:00am.
If you have forgotten to order your child's lunch you will be able to order a late lunch order, available on the Flexi Schools site.
Have a great week.
Kind regards
Ingrid Carvalho
