Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to school for Term 3. The staff and students are all refreshed and ready to embark on a new term of learning. Our staff prayer this week readied us for the Spring term where it is much easier to look forward with joy then our last term where we moved into winter.
Lord as we prepare for the coming of a new term make us ready, attentive and available to hear you. Thank you for the gift of being able to rise each day with the assurance that you walk through it with us. May the work we do and the way we do it , bring new hope, new life and courage to all we come in contact with this term.
This mornings Grandparent’s Mass was another beautiful mass prepared by our staff and students. We welcomed many grandparents and friends into the school to see the children’s work and to have morning tea with us. It was a pleasure to greet such important people in our children’s lives. Thank you to Father Kene who celebrated his first school mass with us.

Next week is our school census. The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data forms part of this and plays a big role in our continued funding from the government. Thank you to Mrs Miller, our staff and parents who have contributed to this massive task.
At the end of last term our new director announced changes to the SCS School Review process. As our school review was scheduled for August it has been put on hold. We have chosen though to continue to shape our new Strategic Plan which is a requirement of all schools. We will use the staff and student surveys (unfortunately we got only a few responses from parents) as well as reflections on our previous strategic plan and annual plans. Once the new plan has been written we will share that with the community.
Please see the school calendar for all our events this term. Have you put the Book Character Parade in your diary? On the 20th August the children get the chance to dress up and celebrate reading and books!
The theme this year is “Reading is my superpower.”
You are all invited to attend this Sundays Year 4 family mass at 9am at Sacred Heart Church.
This week teachers have had time to plan Religious Education units with Mr Brierley. Next week teachers will be released to assess children’s mathematics progress in multiplication and division using the clinical interview.
Regards
Julie Caldwell

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
Each year we offer our students in Years 2 to Year 6 the opportunity to participate in The University of New South Wales International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS). The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is an independent, quality skills-based assessment program which rewards and recognises achievement. All students receive a certificate and an individual student report indicating which questions they answered correctly and their score compared with the rest of the students tested in Australia.
Certificates are awarded for each year level as follows:
- High Distinction to the top 1% of students in Australia
- Distinction to the next 10% of students in Australia
- Credit to the next 25% of students in Australia
- Participation to all other participating students
The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. ICAS gives you broad insights into your child’s performance across English, Mathematics and Writing. It gathers performance information through a 30-60 minute supervised in-school test.
ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.
