Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week we celebrated the Assumption of Mary. According to our faith, the Holy Mother, having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. It marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus. While the bodies of both Jesus and Mary are now in heaven, there is a difference between the Assumption and the Resurrection/ Ascension. Where Jesus arose from the tomb and ascended into heaven by his own power, Mary’s body was taken up to heaven by the power of her Son. For this reason, we use different words to describe each event. One is the Ascension of Christ and the other, the Assumption of Mary.
Mary urges all people, regardless of culture or beliefs, to open their minds and hearts to God. Mother Mary explains how to live more fully conscious of our presence and purpose here on earth, and how to prepare ourselves for re-entry into the spirit world after physical death. She is the masterwork of God and the start of God bringing mankind into communion with Jesus. I thank Miss Jackson as well as our incredible students for preparing our very special mass to celebrate the Assumption of Mary.
Father Phil’s Ordination Anniversary
This Saturday, we celebrate a remarkable milestone in the journey of a devoted servent of God, Father Phil, as he marks his 56-year ordination anniversary. This is a moment to reflect on his unwavering dedication, his tireless service, and the countless lives he has touched through his ministry.
The life of a priest is one of sacrifice, dedication, and boundless love. Father Phil has embraced this life with open arms, and his example has illuminated the path for us all. His humility, compassion, and steadfastness have shown us what it truly means to serve God's people.
As we celebrate Father Phil’s ordination, let us not only look back on his achievements but also look forward with hope and gratitude for the years to come. His ministry is a testament to the transformative power of faith, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
Father Phil, we express our deepest appreciation for the sacrifices you have made, the prayers you have offered, and the love you have shared. Your life's work has enriched our lives and brought us closer to God. May you continue to be a guiding light, leading us and our parents and most importantly our children on the path of righteousness.
Congratulations, Father Phil, on 56 years of dedicated service. May your journey ahead be filled with the same grace and joy that you have brought to all of us.

We strive to provide a clean and safe environment for all our students, and we need your partnership to help us with this.
Our cleaning staff works diligently to ensure our bathrooms are clean and hygienic throughout the day. However, a significant part of keeping them this way comes down to how our students use them. We are reinforcing this at school but would be grateful if you could have a conversation with your child at home about a few simple but important habits:
- Using the toilet correctly: This includes flushing, urinating appropriately and leaving the cubicle tidy.
- Washing hands thoroughly with soap: This is vital for everyone's health.
- Placing all rubbish in the bins: Keeping the floor and sinks clean helps the entire school community.
Teaching and reinforcing these habits at home makes a huge difference at school. Our combined effort in modeling respect for shared spaces will ensure our bathrooms remain a clean and pleasant place for everyone.

St Vincent de Paul Snack Packs
Sacred Heart students participating in the Year Six Pope Francis Award Program will be assembling snack packs to contribute to the Vinnies Vans Services. We ask for your support with this initiative, by donating single packaged items from the list below. If you are able to donate any of the following items, please send them to school by Thursday, 18th of September. Collection tubs will be left in the school foyer and in the school office. Sacrament of the Eucharist
Yesterday the Year Four students and First Holy Communion candidates participated in a First Holy Communion retreat day. What an important time it is for these students, in their Sacramental journey. We wish all First Holy Communion candidates the very best over the next two weeks, as they prepare to receive their Sacrament of the Eucharist.

What a fantastic time we had celebrating Science Week last week at Sacred Heart! A huge thank you to Mr. Nokes, Mr. O'Donoghue, and Miss Adamo for their hard work in making it such a success.
Students had a blast with the engaging and educational investigations offered by our dedicated teachers during the lunch clubs. We were so impressed with the high demand and enthusiasm from all the students who participated!
- A Galaxy of Fun with Mr. Nokes! "Sphero Race around the Solar System."
- Getting Creative with the Gardening Club! "Insect Hotels"
I hope everyone is thoroughly enjoying the events for Book Week this week and that your children are coming home with wonderful stories and experiences to share. We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Jago, Ms. Spano and Ms. Cowan for their dedication to making this an enjoyable and exciting celebration of literature and the adventures that can be had through reading!
Kind regards,

IMPORTANT: ROAD SAFETY REMINDERS
Road safety around our school is essential for the wellbeing of all students, staff, and families.
We are pleased to share that we are working in collaboration with Mosman Council to improve safety on Cardinal Street. The zebra crossing is now officially marked, and further upgrades including a raised median strip and wire safety fencing are planned for completion by the end of the year.
Please note that any future works on Military Road fall under the responsibility of the State Government, and we will continue to advocate for the safety of our students and families in this area.
In the meantime, we remind all families to:
✅ Talk with your children about always using designated crossings and looking both ways before stepping onto the road, even when the pedestrian light is green.
✅ Drive within the school zone speed limit to protect children and pedestrians, especially during the busy drop-off and pick-up times.
✅ No U-turns over double lines. Please use designated turning points to ensure traffic flows smoothly and safely.
✅ Take extra care. Be alert for children crossing and always follow directions from school staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to creating a safe environment for every child in our community.

In the Catholic Church, the month of August is traditionally dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This devotion is a way to honor Mary's inner life, her love for God, and her role in salvation history. It complements the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is celebrated in June.
Here's why August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart:
Complement to the Sacred Heart:
While June focuses on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, August offers a dedicated time to reflect on Mary's Immaculate Heart, which is closely linked to her Son's.
Focus on Mary's Interior Life:
This devotion emphasizes Mary's virtues, love, and her complete alignment with God's will.
Spiritual Connection:
It encourages believers to draw closer to Mary and, through her, to Jesus.
August 22: The Queenship of Mary, a feast day honoring Mary's role as Queen of Heaven.
Family Educator Initiatives continue this term with the Playgroup now every Monday morning 10am-11:30. The children are making new friends and having a great time. Walking for Wellbeing group is so much fun. We had our first walk around Balmoral and were lucky to have a sunny day & free coffee. Weather permitting we will continue to go to Balmoral. It is truly great for the soul.
Please come along and join us.
Have your say in the SYDNEY SYNOD 2025, is an opportunity to get involved by bringing your ideas on how you feel about faith and your longings for the church and how to make our church in Sydney more vibrant, to our regional consultations. Daily Prayer to the Holy Family.
O most loving Jesus, Who by your surpassing virtues and the example of your home life hallowed the household in which you choose to live while on earth, mercifully look down upon this family, whose members, humbly prostrate before you, implore your protection.
Remember that we are bound and consecrated to you by a special devotion. Protect us in your mercy, deliver us from danger, help us in our necessities, and impart to us strength to persevere always in the imitation of your Holy Family, so that, by serving you and loving you faithfully during this mortal life, we may at length give you eternal praise in heaven.
O Mary, dearest Mother, we implore your assistance, knowing that your divine Son will hearken to your petition.
Most glorious patriarch, St. Joseph, help us with your powerful patronage, and place our petitions in Mary's hands, that she may offer them to Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Have a blessed week

We are already half way through the term and my, has this term flown. Welcome to the Week 5 edition of the sports newsletter. Please continue to read on for all of our student achievements.
Last week, we had Eve Grover in Year 6 participate in a three day netball tournament in Coffs Harbour. After three huge days of competition, playing a full round with all 14 associations in attendance (that’s 13 games each!), MacKillop fought hard and finished off with a Bronze medal! A huge well done to all teams for their effort, skill and sportsmanship over the championships. A special congratulations to Eve for her amazing efforts and representation in the tournament.
Also occurring last week on Monday 11th of August, Sacred Heart had 33 students attend the Conference 1 Athletics Championships. The most magical week of the year is here!
Book Week is our chance to dive into new worlds, meet unforgettable characters and celebrate the joy of reading with family, friends and classmates. Climb aboard Sacred Heart Airways and join us in our travels as we book an adventure!
Throughout the week, there are lots of fun activities, discovering new favourite stories and browsing at the Book Fair. On Friday, we will be dressing up as our favourite book hero. There’s something for everyone.
Perform Education entertained Kindy to Year 2 with their action-packed interactive adventure. Treasure Hunt was a musical exploring themes of sustainability as well as celebrating how books and reading create understanding and bringing people of different backgrounds together.
Our students have been very fortunate to meet and listen to some incredible authors, sharing their imagination and words of wisdom when it comes to writing a story. We do hope that each student gains something special from these experiences, sparking new interests into the world of literacy.
It has been wonderful seeing many of you already this week, in particular some of our new families. Thank you for supporting our school library.
Let’s turn the page and make this Book Week one to remember!

Kindy Blue had their boarding passes and passports ready to climb aboard Sacred Heart Airways today in the Library. Their travel to new places of adventure started with a book.
HAPPY READING!
Cecilia Jago & Josie Spano
2025 NON GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS CENSUS
Dear Parents and Carers,
The Australian state and federal governments provide significant financial support for the education of students in our school system based on data we provide through the Census. These census collections also provide valuable information used to plan for the future educational needs of our schools in terms of the administration of programs and provisions of resources.
The 2025 Non-Government School Census will take place on 1st August 2025. Please see links and attachments below in regards to collection of data and privacy notice

BASKETBALL REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW OPEN
1. GRADING:
Grading will take place over two weeks starting 18th August, with the first training session scheduled for Monday, 2nd September, ahead of the first game on Saturday, 7th September.
Important: If your child cannot attend the grading day, team placement will be based on their performance during Comp 1. A detailed grading schedule is below.
2. TRAINING:
Training sessions will be held on the school basketball court.
If your child attends after-school care (OSHC) following training, please complete the required OSHC paperwork and inform your team supervisor to ensure appropriate supervision and safety.
3. NORTHS GRADING STRUCTURE:
Norths organises teams by age groups: U8, U10, U12, and U13, with each group covering two school years.
We collaborate closely with Norths to ensure Sacred Heart teams are placed in divisions that reflect a fair level of skill. However, final placement is at the discretion of the Norths Association. Teams may be regraded twice during the season. Feedback is always welcome via email.
4. TEAMS:
Red Eyes Coaches will prioritise forming teams with players from the same school year.
If there aren’t enough players, teams may include players from two year levels, provided they fall within Norths' age group requirements (e.g., a U12 team may include both Year 4 and Year 5 students if necessary).
5. MORE INFORMATION:
