Dear Parents and Carers
Congratulations to our Year 6 students on receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation - last Sunday at St Mary’s Cathedral. The archbishop spoke about Confirmation as a contract with God to be the best person you possibly can be. Through Confirmation we all have access to the gifts of the Spirit: right judgement, wisdom, understanding, counsel, courage, knowledge, reverence, and wonder & awe of the Lord. It is up to us to use those gifts well each day.

This week I attended the Marist College North Shore Feast Day Mass. Sacred Heart is originally a Marist school and we can see the alignment in our values as a school, and the mission of Marist. Marist College is a “ place where hard work and excellent achievement are valued, where the individual is genuinely loved and prized, a places where a strong family spirit is evident, a place characterised by a lack of pretense but rather by simplicity and calm determination.” The young men at Marist are a credit to their school.
Earlier today you were sent logins for parent teacher interviews. Can you ensure that you book an appointment as soon as possible. Teachers would like to complete all interviews by the end of the term to update you about your child’s progress so far this year and to set goals for the rest of the year.
The School Photographer has provided us with an absentee list of students who missed out on photos and a Portrait Catch-ups morning has been booked for Friday, 21 June. The Photographer will start photos at 9am, if your child missed the original date, please contact the office for further support.
This year we have been working on Writing as a goal for teacher professional development and student growth. Students and teachers have been very successful in their efforts and we have recorded growth for most children. Our students are all saying that they believe that their writing has improved this year. To celebrate the work that we have been doing we would like to hold a writing workshop for parents to show you how we are working to improve writing and we would like to open our classrooms for you to see samples of the children’s work and the “Bump it up” strategy in use.

Our band is doing well and learning some great tunes. Unfortunately it is very small and we really need more members if we would like to keep it going. At the moment, the Sacred Heart Sports Club is helping to pay for the band master.
How wonderful to have some rain and cooler weather conditions. A perfect excuse to curl up with a good book!

Sacred Heart Interschools Skiing 17-21 July
In 2016, parents from Sacred Heart banded together with the school allowing children to represent their school in the NSW interschool ski championships. Interschools is an event for the kids that is about participation rather than winning. It’s held every year with the location varying between Thredbo and Perisher Valley.
This year, it will be held at Perisher Valley from the 17th July to the 21st July. My son August (year 5) will ski for his school as his older sister Amelie will ski for Monte.
This is a call to any other parents who may be thinking about this to, express their interest and get on board. The kids can ski or board in their age groups and have their times recorded. August and Amelie, have done a similar thing the last 3 years at Charlottes Pass and they have loved it each time.
So what does this mean and what do I need to do?
Interschools do not provide accommodation, lift passes or food. They provide a structure for the kids to compete and have fun. Therefore, you will need to organise your own transport, accommodation and meals. It’s your responsibility to ensure that your child gets to their place ontime.
There is a great website for those interested. Please click on the following link and watch their promotional video. There is also a handbook. Other schools in the area also organise teams.
How good does my child have to be?
The kids have to be able to execute turns safely and in control. They have to be able to safely get on a chairlift or T-Bar. They need to wear safe clothing and helmet. Apart from this, there are no specific requirements. It’s about participation and fun.
Does it cost anything?
Yes, it does cost a small amount to cover the events insurances etc. More information can be found on the website.
If interested please contact me on 0412 998 776.
