FATHER’S DAY EVENTS THIS FRIDAY
1. P&F will be providing a coffee cart. It will be set up closer to the Kameruka entrance area so as not to impede on the basketball courts where we will have some handball games. Thank you kindly to the P&F!
2. We will have our usual Friday award assembly followed by a Kindergarten Father's Day presentation.
Thank you so much Mrs Jago and Ms Spano for all of your organisation and preparation leading up to the events of book week. The children had an amazing time throughout but especially on the day of the parade. The work you both do all year round is very much appreciated!
Playground behaviour
As a staff, we have taken a hard line with our students in regards to their behaviour on the playground. I have followed a relatively restorative approach for a while now but with increased behaviours, we had no choice but to amend some of the rules in place. Our focus is on interactions during games, language used, physical behaviours and wearing hats. We have clear guidelines around allocated areas for students to play and our expectations were clearly outlined to staff and students last week. In summary, students will be given one verbal reminder by the teacher on duty, if the behaviour continues, they will be asked to go to the office and miss their play time. After two visits to the office, parents will be contacted. At all times, our children are at the core of every decision that we make and while we may have to call you in line with our new way forward, we ask that you support us and trust in our professional judgment and discretion.
However, I am pleased to report that over the past week there have been notable improvements in playground behaviours, these sentiments are echoed by our staff also which is very pleasing.
May God bless all our families.

Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a lovely past two weeks celebrating both Science and Book weeks. Thanks to Mrs Petersen and our Year 6 Science and Tech leaders for all of the Science week activities organised, which were so much fun, innovative and informative. Thanks to Mrs Jago, Mrs Spano and our Year 6 Library team for our wonderful book week celebrations including our parade, fair and competitions. A special congratulations to the winners of the Mosman Library competitions.
Art Show
Mrs Conroy, our teachers, parent committee and students are excited about our upcoming art show in week 9 and are busily finishing art works in preparation for the show. You may have seen our Creative Arts leaders and Paws puppy promoting the show at drop-off this morning. We are running the show over two afternoons to give families more opportunities to attend and the afternoons will have a lovely ambience with amazing visual art, music and food. Please buy your tickets on Qkr.
Canberra
Our Year 6 students and teachers head off to Canberra next week for an overnight excursion. Leaving early Thursday morning, they spend the day visiting the National Museum of Australia and Questacon, have a game of Zone bowling and spend the night at Canberra Park Resort. On Friday they tour the National Portrait Gallery, Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial. This is an opportunity for students to learn more about the history of our country and political system. We thank the teachers for volunteering to lead this excursion. We hope this is a very enjoyable experience.
Morning Drop-Off
As mentioned in our last newsletter, the Council Parking officer has advised that parents should use the three available drop-off areas in the morning. One is on the Church side (2 car spaces) and the other two are on the school side of Cardinal Street (3-4 spaces each). These are the areas marked with the yellow ‘School Drop-off Zone’ - white/red ‘No Parking’. There is one as you turn the bend and the other in front of the main school gate. Drivers should depart within two minutes and their whole car should be within the ‘No Parking’ zone to avoid fines.
I have recently noticed an increase in parents getting out of the car in the morning to say a final goodbye. This is not considerate of the needs of the driver behind. If your child needs assistance with their bag or uniform then you should park your car and allow them to walk, or walk with them. The drop-off area should just be for those children who can independently get out of the car and wave goodbye.
Security
Our new security buzzer is working well and has ensured increased safety for our students both before and after school. Please do not drop your child at school before 8:10 am, as they will not be able to enter the school grounds. We are lucky to have SCECS before and after school care on site to assist parents if needed in the morning. Please contact SCECS should you wish to enrol.
Wishing you God’s Blessings,
Jane Taylor
Assistant Principal

I would like to say a huge thank you to those who were able to attend our very first Sacred Heart playgroup on Monday. It was a great morning and well attended. If you have a toddler or are a carer of toddlers, please come along to the next playgroup which will be in a fortnight on Monday 11th September in the Parish Hall. Feel free to tell a friend.
Congratulations to the children who received their First Holy Communion on the weekend. I attended Saturday night service, and it was beautiful to watch the children and their families receive the special gift of Jesus for the first time. I felt blessed to be part of this Sacrament.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Tuesday 22nd August, our Sacred Heart Netball Club teams participated in the CSNSW Netball Gala Day. This is a day where multiple schools within the Catholic Diocese join and verse each other in netball. Participating schools came from Tumbi Umbi, Tamworth, Orange and all over the Sydney Metropolitan network. Overall, it was a very successful day with the Sacred Heart teams placing:
Sacred Heart Y6 (12/13yrs) - 2nd place in their pool
Sacred Heart 01 (11 years) - 2nd place in their pool
Sacred Heart 02 (11 years) - 3rd place in their pool
The girls fought really well and were only a couple of points away from first and second place! A special thank you to Claire Tynan and Belinda Johnson for managing the teams. Also thank you to Thuy Pham, Karina Savage and Fiona Dynon for making your way out to Penrith and assisting the girls on the day. Lastly, an immense thank you to Mrs. Watson who assisted on the day. She was a great asset to the day as she cheered and shared her Netball wisdom with the girls!
The girls were also very lucky to have some team members from the Giants Netball team attend the event and they had their arms or shoes signed by them.
On Friday 1st September, Leon Pichler, Eloise Horan and Gisele Camus will represent Sacred Heart at the Sydney Athletics Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC). This is a big event with both Primary and Secondary students within the Catholic network in attendance. To support the children attending, you are able to watch the event live-streamed using the flyer below. Please wish them luck in their events!
That’s all for now in sporting news. I look forward to giving you further updates on our student achievements next time.
Kind Regards,
Miss Calizar
