Handball for Dads and Kids on Friday 8-8.40 at school!
Tell the boss you’ll be late…
Dear Parents and Carers,
The time is ticking away and before we know it it will be the end of the year. Please take a look at the amended calendar below and see what we have planned for the rest of the term. We hope that we will see you at school at some of our events during that time.
Thank you to our parents who have banded together to make sure our fair happens this year. Pre Covid each year the school held a huge community event - the Spring Fair. This year the Christmas Fair will be held on Sunday the 27th of November. It is always a great event for the children so please pop it on your calendar. You may get requests to lend a hand before the day - that's always a great opportunity to connect or reconnect with other families.
The focus for 2022 has been on balance. It is a year for rebuilding relationships and engaging the community in the school and parish. While we are working towards excellence in academics, we have been actively fostering our student's spiritual development and promoting and supporting their wellbeing while engaging with parents to offer support and guidance in their role as first educators of their children. Some of the ways we have done this have been through the Back to Parish initiative, the introduction of the Friendology program and the Parent Engagement program.
I reported recently on our excellent Naplan results. It wasn't until last Friday that we realised, comparatively, how good they are. At a Principal’s Naplan meeting Sydney Catholic Schools reported the top performing primary schools (out of about 130 SCS schools). They reported on six categories of Naplan (Reading, Writing and Numeracy for Year 3 and Year 5). To our school’s surprise and joy, Sacred Heart Mosman scored in the top three in three of the categories. They were as follows:
Year 3: Achievement
2nd in Reading in SCS primary schools
Year 5: Achievement
1st in Reading in SCS primary schools
3rd in Writing in SCS primary schools
I’d like to congratulate all staff and parents again for this result as it has been a combined and prolonged effort from all of us to reach this point.
Thank you to the many parents and students who attended the Year 1 Family Mass last Sunday. Please see the notices re the mass next Sunday. It is a very special one that has not been celebrated for a while.
Dad’s Handball Friday the 28th October
Please remind the dads that they are invited to handball on Friday morning. Just for fun and for a chance for our dads to spend time with their kids and connect with other dads.
Concert 13th December
The concert preparation is well under way and will be a great celebration of the school’s 100th year anniversary as a Marist school. A reminder re costumes is located at the end of the newsletter.
From the P and F - School survey - reminder.
Have your say!
Please take the time to complete the P&F School survey to ensure we capture the thoughts of our school community during this time of change at Sacred Heart. The feedback is anonymous and will assist the P&F in identifying areas of improvement, potential areas of concern and areas which are important to you and your children.
We aim to close the survey off prior to the next P&F meeting in Nov, so please access the survey soon.
Today you will receive your newsletter in two different formats. The new email with a link should be able to open the newsletter directly without logging into Compass which will make it easier to access. Please let us know if this method works for you. Our calendar is constantly being updated. The most recent version is on Compass and the side of the newsletter. Please see some important dates below:
Regards
Julie Caldwell

Christmas Story Art Competition, 2022
Schools from the Archdiocese of Sydney, Dioceses of Wollongong and Bathurst, and Catholic students in State schools, were invited to take part in ‘The Christmas Story Art Exhibition and Competition 2022’– a visual arts exhibition and competition for students in Years 5 and 6. This is an initiative to celebrate and explore children’s creative, artistic and reflective ability in expressing understandings of the Christmas story.

We would like to congratulate and acknowledge the following students from Years 5 and 6 who submitted artworks into the competition. These students gave up their mornings and afternoons to engage in the artistic process and reflective tasks. We were impressed by their level of passion, commitment, enthusiasm and their support for one another.

Congratulations to the following students who entered:
Year Six applicants: Sophie Davis, Paige Grant, Maya Janes, Piper Johnson, Isabella Mansfield, Edie Tyson.
Year Five applicants: Jade Anderson, Arabella Crone, Emma Doughty, Femke Elenbaas, Megan Hang, Sienna Livermore, Marguerite Murphy, Sophia Ribeiro-Benn.
Thank you to the staff who supported these students and mentored them through the creative process- Mrs Linda Conroy, Mrs Liane Morris, Mrs Marilina Watson, Mrs Anna Siokos.
