Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to Term 4. It is often a busy but exciting term where children are consolidating new skills, there will be new beginnings and endings and we have the hectic lead up to Christmas. We can choose to do this mind-full-y, rushing through endless lists and tasks or being truly mindful (see diagram below) about what we choose to pay close attention to and what we choose to prioritise. I know this term will be busy but I hope it will be a fulfilling one for all.
This diagram comes from the Peaceful Kids program that Miss Roache led at our Staff Development Day on Monday.
The program teaches children more awareness of their emotions in order to access and use tools to calm and sustain good mental health.
The news that Mr Brierley is also leaving at the end of the year may cause our community some concern about the future but let me assure you there is no cause for worry because of the depth and breadth of our formal and informal leadership team at Sacred Heart. While you may have seen Mr Brierley and myself front and centre you may not have seen the quiet achievers/superstars on our leadership team or realise the work they have done in the school.
Let me introduce you to the leadership team that will be staying on at Sacred Heart next year who will be there to guide and maintain the fantastic academic results we have achieved, the Annual Improvement Plans we have devised and who will continue to maintain the professional development that has contributed to much of the school’s recent success.
Our formal leadership team:
Miss Jackson - Religious Education Coordinator Miss Jackson is the third leader in the school and liaises with the parish on all school masses, liturgies and prayer sessions. She coordinates professional learning for Religious Education and compliance for programming in RE. She is currently working with SCS on implementing the new RE curriculum starting with Year 5 in 2023. |
|
Mrs Edwards - Instructional Leader Coordinator 3 Mrs Edwards is a senior leader in the school and she oversees the professional development and compliance of the subject areas of Mathematics, English, Creative Arts and PDHPE. She is our Instructional Specialist for Mathematics and leads several teams of teachers who are at different levels of proficiency in mathematics. She has overseen the implementation of the new PDHPE syllabus and recently led the NESA audit into Creative Arts policy and programming which we passed with flying colours. |
|
Mrs Miller - Literacy Leader Coordinator 2 Mrs Miller is also a senior member of our Leadership Team and takes leadership of our assessment plans and data collection and analysis. Mrs Miller is leader of the Diverse Learning Team. Our analysis of data and the actions taken afterwards over the last six years has had a direct impact in the growth of our academic upturn in recent years. Clare also analyses where the support for students in the school is required. Many of our parents of children who require either a little extra support or a lot would testify as to the compassion and incredible effort she puts into her role. |
|
Mrs McCartney - Literacy Coordinator 1 Mrs McCartney is new to our Leadership Team this year and brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous roles in other schools. She is currently leading the professional development on implementing the new K-2 syllabus in English for 2023. She is currently working on a project for writing moderation that will begin for our reporting period for the end of the year and will continue into 2023. |
|
Mrs Petersen - Science, Technology and Inquiry Coordinator 1 You may have noticed Mrs Petersen’s work over the last few years as we have celebrated Science Week. This work has grown as she has led the development of Science (STEM) through Deep Learning and most recently with the additional development of an Inquiry model based on the work of Kath Murdoch. Mrs Petersen and her team are currently planning the implementation of a Sacred Heart Inquiry Framework and we spent some of the recent staff development day looking at ways that we can further our work in sustainability and ways to integrate History and Geography by giving our students real world, solvable problems that helps them become hope filled, future focused stewards of the beautiful world that God gave us. |
As well as our formal leadership team we have a number of emerging leaders and teachers on teams who are supporting our leaders. As you can see I am very proud of our leadership team who have taken on the challenge of leadership in our school and the emerging leaders who have “stepped up” to take on roles within the school that help move our school goals forward.
This term we welcomed Mrs Chona Garcia as an LSO to our Diverse Learning team. She will be supporting students across the school under the direction of Mrs Miller.

UNLEASH YOUR CHILD’S LEARNING POTENTIAL
The Arrowsmith team would like to invite you to an information session to learn all about the
Arrowsmith Program. Arrowsmith is an innovative program, which, through the principles of
neuroplasticity, strengthens the weak cognitive areas, underlying many learning disorders, to
boost cognitive capacity.
At 8am, on the 26 th of October (week 3) in the Hub
The Arrowsmith Program is ideally suited for children with average to above average IQ, who
may have been held back in their learning. The program has achieved some great results as
evidenced by academic improvement and through independent research, which has been
published in journals and peer reviewed. There are limited places available for 2023. If you are
interested in this program for your child, please come along to our morning session to see and
hear how this program could benefit you and your child.

Be your best.

Welcome back everyone to term 4! Good luck with everyone's season of sport.

As always, we will be looking for parent helpers to help with timekeeping. If there are any parents available for the day or part of it your assistance is always greatly appreciated. Please email your interest to me at A.adamdevilliers@syd.catholic.edu.au
If you have any questions about the event, please also email Mr. De Villiers.
