Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to school everyone. I hope you had a good break from the routine of school.
Term Three is often the most favoured term for teachers and students as the weather gets warmer, there are no reports and testing to complete and some of our favourite activities and school events are held.
We love to celebrate in Term 3:
❤️ Grandparents Day - we love to see our special visitors (next week!)
❤️ Science Week - packed full of exciting learning and hands on activities
❤️ Fathers Day - a morning for all the children with their dads
❤️ Book Week - a fun celebration of books and dressups
Please see the term dates that are advertised at the end of this newsletter, on the public calendar in Compass (most up to date) and the calendar at the side of the newsletter for your family diary for the term.
The teachers were very happy and energised to be back after the break and spent a very busy day on Monday discovering and planning with the new Kindergarten to Year 2 Mathematics Syllabus that we will be required to teach in 2023. (A new syllabus for Yrs 3-6 will be introduced in 2024).We also looked at ways of assessing students' learning. As well as the formal tests we give children, it was timely for teachers to look at the way we build a supportive environment and positive relationships with students where they feel they can take risks in order to learn, especially in mathematics. Teacher observation is a very tried and true way of knowing whether a child is learning and teachers can tell a great deal about a child’s learning just from their day to day interactions with them. Thank you to Mrs Edwards who is our Curriculum Leader for the school who led the staff on this day.
Unfortunately we had to cancel our Athletics Carnival yet again but it would have jeopardised the students and teachers health and safety to go ahead on our last day of school. Many thanks to our Year Six leaders who made it a fun day for our younger students by coming up with fun sporting activities held indoors back at school. We have a number of students who have submitted times to Mr De Villiers and they will move to the Conference Carnival on August 2nd. We wish them all the best with their training and on the day.
Many thanks to the Beasley O’Neill family who have dropped the Sacred Heart donations to the Lismore Library on our behalf. The Lismore librarians were very grateful for our efforts in donating over 700 high quality children’s chapter books and picture books for their flood affected libraries.
Friday Assembly Coffee Mornings
At the end of last term we had quite a number of events back on site and it was a joy to see parents here again as part of our school. I have included the term calendar for you to see where the opportunities are for you to engage with the school during the term. One of our regular events, our Friday assembly, is often attended by parents when their children receive awards. Parents are welcome to attend any Friday and will find a welcoming cup of coffee near the Art Room from 8.30am onwards, hosted by Mrs Lozina our Family Educator.
As part of our welcome back to parents we held a Volunteer Education session this morning via Zoom. Our future Parent Engagement Sessions will be held in a hybrid fashion and parents can choose to attend in person, watch on Zoom or replay the video from our Parent Engagement site.
