2nd May 2019
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to Term 2
I hope you enjoyed a happy and holy easter break. The children seem really revitalised and glad to be back. As we have quite a few dates and commitments over the next few weeks I have included the all in our first newsletter this term.
Open Morning (number two) for enrolments 2020 - 3rd May 9.30 School Hall

School Uniform
This week week we begin the transition into winter uniform. This should happen over the next few weeks and hopefully the whole school will be in winter uniform by Week 3. Our uniform suppliers will be changing over tomorrow. As from next week our uniform suppliers will be Cowan and Lewis from Turramurra. We will include links in the newsletter and website from Monday. Please direct any enquiries to our school office to assist you in this transition. If uniform is in short supply we hope to rectify this as soon as possible with the assistance of our new supplier. Online ordering is still available and deliveries will be made to the school. Please see the roster below for days that the students should wear sports uniform. We have added a few days to the previous roster so that all classes are wearing their sports uniform on two days and their winter uniform on three days.

Term 2 Reminders re Safety and supervision around the school
Supervision of students by teachers begins at 8.10
Thank you for the big improvement in safety in and around the school in the afternoons. A reminder that children should leave through one of our designated teacher supervised areas:
- Kameruka for students meeting parents
- Crossing line for students walking home
- Bus line for students catching buses
- After School Care line up
- Car line
Morning Car line
The morning car line should follow the same rules and routine as the afternoon one. This is kiss and drop only, parents should not exit the vehicle. Students should be able to exit the vehicle by themselves on the footpath side. If you need to get out or want to converse with other parents you should not use this area. Currently we have no staff or parent volunteers supervising this drop off and so we are relying on parents to be safe and cautious when using this facility.
Regards
Julie Caldwell
SHM Band is busy getting ready for their performance at the Mother's Day Breakfast. Please make sure your children practise their pieces. There will be one more practice on Wednesday morning and the performance will be on Friday 10th May at 8am.
Heartfelt
Term 2, Week 1
As we end our first week of school with the Sacred Heart Sport Mass, we celebrate the meaning of being part of an extended community. This Sunday, our school community will blend with our sports community in a joyful celebration at Mass, together with our faith community. One might almost recognize the concept of a “trinity” at play. As we all wear our jerseys to Sunday’s Sports Mass, I am reminded of a Mass where I had the honour of listening to an amazing priest giving a homily about sport and jerseys. How would a jersey link with our Catholic faith? Quite well, in fact.
Picture this:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
Imagine a God who was so wise, so powerful and so loving that he had a jersey made for you to celebrate the day that you would come to be born. Each and every one of us has a unique jersey made especially for us. It is woven with special fabric, special colours and a total uniqueness that no one can imitate. God made us and with pride; in his image. He gave us our faith jerseys so that we might walk in his footsteps and live the Christian way of life. He gave us a team to belong to and the playing field of life. Of course, over time our jerseys would get dirty, ripped and “worse for wear” but with God’s help we wash off the stains and put that jersey back on. The jersey is our identity. It is who we are. God would weep if we changed jerseys, abandoned our jerseys or decided that we didn’t like the game, the rules or the playing field. His accompaniment in the playing field of life can only be at its strongest if we wear his jersey; the one he created just for us.
Thank you to Fr Philip of the Opus Dei Prelate who shared this homily with the congregation.
SHM SPORTS MASS
Thank you to all the parents who volunteer their time all year round, to run the sports club, and to Mrs Caldwell and Mr De Villiers. A special thanks needs to be given to you all for helping with the breakfast BBQ after the Parish Sports Mass. The children and parishioners really appreciate it.

Gift of bread thoughts……
During the holidays I was gathering boxes and taking them into the hall to prepare for this term. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t in the best mood. I had the flu during the holidays, I was having trouble getting people to deliver the bread and return the crates and I didn’t have one box for our next bread packing session, hence, I was driving around like a lunatic looking for boxes, among other GoB duties. I was feeling rather depleted.
A lady stopped me on the street and asked, “Are you doing the bread tonight?” I told her that I wasn’t but that there was bread in the church foyer if she would like some. She thanked me and said, “Thanks, it really helps me out.”
There you have it. I just experienced a moment of grace.
If you have any time on a Friday morning, I desperately need drivers to deliver a box to Crows Nest and /or return crates to Neutral Bay. I also need boxes to be left at the hall during the week. Banana boxes are the best and Aldi seems to have them as well as Woolies. Can you help?
Thank you to the many volunteers who are already helping out. The Gift of Bread is also the Gift of Friendship and more importantly the Gift of Grace.
SPaR……….Stop,Pray,Reflect…
Due to the Cana Mother’s Day Stall there will be no SPaR on Thursday 9th May but we will see you on Thursday 16th May. It’s going to be a great one!
WALK AND TALK IS BACK!
Join us for a walk and a chat on Tuesdays in Term 2. We will start in week 2.
Mother’s day Stall week 2:
The Cana Mother’s Day stall will be held in the library on Thursday 9th May in week 2.
Please remember to place your order via the QKR App. It is preferable to place each gift under your CHILD’S NAME. Sometimes the little students don’t know their parents’ names and it makes it difficult when you call our parents names when gathering the kids to collect their present(s). Buy as many gifts as you like but please make sure that it is clearly labelled. Eg Sabine Lozina 3 gifts etc.
Please make sure that you receive an email confirming that you have paid. If you do not receive an email, the payment hasn’t been processed. This will lead to tears on the day. Mrs Lozina is going to be strong this year…..she is not buying gifts for children who are in tears because parents forgot to use the QKR app and check for confirmation……
I am told that gifts will be slightly different to last year’s gifts but even if they are similar, the fundraising is a worthy cause and mums and carers love anything bought for them!
FAMILY MOVIE night has been postponed but we will be rescheduling it for later on in the year. Watch this space……
It’s still National Family week so I have a little treat for the kids to take home….
Watch this space!
VINNIES NIGHT PATROL SNACKS AND SWEETS
Please donate snacks and place them in the basket which is in the school foyer.
HELP OUT IN VINNIES SOUP KITCHEN
If anyone is interested in helping to make soup at Vinnies (or other little jobs) please email Mary Lozina. It’s a short trip to Lewisham and the hours are 10am to 1pm.
PARISH NEWS……

We received 10 new Catholics into the Church during the Easter season. Who said Australia was secular? More and more people turn and return to faith every day. Three of these wonderful people were parents in our school community.
Congratulations to Nicky Dickson, Fiona Dynon and Sasha Grebe. Welcome to you all. It’s great to have you!
YOUTH MASS:
Our next youth Mass is on Sunday 5th May. It’s going to be a very busy Sunday with the Sports Mass in the morning followed by youth Mass in the evening……
At least parents won’t have to cook!
