Please check their bag.
Remember it's RAT test day tomorrow!
Dear Parents and carers,
Last Friday Father Noel and Deacon Mark celebrated our Opening School Mass with Year Six in attendance and parents and other classes online. The focus for the mass was to welcome our new school year. At the beginning of mass we were introduced to the idea of JOY, SERVICE and CELEBRATION. Joy at bringing the Good News to others (our diocesan theme for the year), service as Year Six leaders of the community and celebration - this year marks 100 years since the Marist Brothers built the Sacred Heart school on this site. 2022 is a year where we will not be defined by a virus but we will be defined by this focus as well as the focus of our school values of FAITH, GENEROSITY and COURAGE.
We seem to have gotten into the swing of the year with the children very settled at school. We also seem to have gotten into the pattern of notifications, communication, isolation and RAT testing. Because we have a number of students at home, some sick and some in isolation, the use of SeeSaw is vital to the home/school connection. Teachers would like to set up their Seesaw classes for 2022 so can I ask that all internet agreements be signed and returned to school by this Friday. Years 3-6 will begin using their Ipads in class next week.
This week is Safer Internet Week. Please see Mr de Villiers’ inclusion in the newsletter with helpful information and strategies. Using the internet is such a useful tool for work, home and education. It is important that our students are educated well at home and school about how to use it safely. Safer Internet Week gives us an opportunity to have open communication with our children at home and school about the value of this educational tool and also the possible dangers of using the internet. Firm and caring boundaries are always encouraged to keep our children safe.
School can be a very exciting place but two callouts from the fire brigade in one day can get the heart racing. One was caused by a faulty detector and the other was a false alarm. Thank you to the teachers and students for their well drilled and sensible response. Thank you to the parents who were in attendance for staying calm and ensuring the students remained calm as well. Let's hope the rest of the week is not so exciting!
CLASS PARENTS
We need you!!
We have several volunteers who are taking up the very important positions of class parents. We would love to see at least three class parents for each grade in order to hopefully connect socially at school and out of school when we can’t meet on site. We’d like to again divide the tasks in such a way that they are not onerous on a small number. The tasks are divided into:
- Communications
- Finance
- Social
If you are interested in these positions or have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Steph Bailey at curransmr@yahoo.com.au
I believe Year 6 need a Year book volunteer as well.
In order for our class parents to communicate with you the school will pass on your child’s name, your phone number and your email address to our P and F secretary who will distribute them to class parents for contacts. If you don't want this to go ahead please contact the office asap.
The P and F
Our next P and F meeting will be held on the 8th of March. At this meeting we hope to have some more parents join us to get a greater insight into the running of the school and to join us in the joint effort of making Sacred Heart the best it can possibly be. We are looking for new and innovative ways to do this. So save the date or send your ideas or queries onto Steph Bailey our P and F Secretary.
AMADEUS UPDATE
Our new music curriculum program for Years 3-6 has begun this term. Linda Conroy will be following the Amadeus music program in class and the instrument tutors will arrive this Thursday to discuss with students their choices for learning instruments. In the coming weeks students will be allocated instruments and will begin bringing them home.

A Good News Story
My little donation.
By Marlow Clyde, 1B
I grew my hair very long during lockdown. I heard I could help sick kids by donating my hair to Wigs4Kids. They use it to make a wig for a kid who has lost their hair. I asked my family and friends to donate to the Kids with Cancer Foundation Australia. They help kids sick with cancer. Here is my fundraising page if you'd like to take a look!

School Covid Update- Please read as these guidelines are more up to date (as they change often) than even the NSW Health websites. Sydney Catholic Schools has a large team who meet on a daily basis and let the schools know what the latest advice is. The advice below is our operational guideline for the coming weeks.
Now that school has begun, if a student at the school (who has been infectious while at school) tests positive:
- Please log the case with NSW Health
- Let the school know so they can alert the grade the child is in. No names will be provided.
This information will be sent out in an alert by the school. Classmates are not required to isolate - just monitor for symptoms
- Positive students must isolate for 7 days after their positive RAT test
- There is no need to get a PCR as RAT tests are now deemed more relevant.
- Students can return to school after seven days if they are symptom free - no test needed to prove this. Sick days should be entered in Compass.
- Students who test positive are exempt for RAT testing for the next 28 days
- Siblings of positive cases should isolate for 7 days as household contacts unless they have been positive for Covid in the last 28 days.
Safer Internet Day 2022
Welcome back everyone! I hope all your children had a wonderful and fulfilling start to the term. As we return we bring to the students' attention, Safer Internet Day. Tuesday 8th February marks the 18th Safer Internet Day. With all our experiences in home learning, it has become apparent the blessings and challenges that technology brings us as we have become global digital citizens. Online gaming, social media, video streaming, shopping. The options are endless of what we can do online! This day marks how we educate our children to be safe, kind and responsible digital citizens. Additionally, we aim to educate our students on the actions they can take when they are feeling unsafe, harassed and unsure of the situation. Even though it is a national day, teachers will aim to ensure that students are educated in partnership with parents so they can enjoy, feel safe and become wonderful digital citizens.
For additional information on Safer Internet Day, please refer to the Safer internet Day Website. https://www.saferinternetday.org/in-your-country/australia
Furthermore, your teachers will be discussing with parents during the upcoming information sessions how your students will be engaging with technology during school.
Healthy Lunchbox Week
The relationship between how we respond to the day’s events and the fuel we give our body is evident. We have all succumbed to the treatable condition we have all come to know as “Hangry” - a delightful portmanteau that combines being hungry and angry. This week marks Healthy Lunchbox Week! A week (and wonderful timing being the start of the term) where we appreciate foods that we can bring to school that benefit our soul, body and mind. We want to inspire all of us to have healthy and creative lunch boxes and snacks!
For further information on Healthy Lunch Box Week please see the official website.

The website includes a banquet of resources, recipes, information, webinars and other goodies!
Bon Appetit!
