Dear Sacred Heart families,
Welcome to Term 3
As we enter the new term it is like a new beginning - fresh, bright and full of possibilities. We hopefully greet it with optimism even though we are in lockdown and we have to be adaptable and responsive to the changing conditions.
One of the things you might like to introduce or continue with your family over this period is an appreciative look at each day and asking the question at the dinner table or at bedtime: “Where did you find God today?” Was it in the beautiful weather, in the faces of your children, in their appreciation of nature in their garden or in a hug from mum or dad?
Lockdown 2021
This morning it was announced that the lockdown and home learning will now extend until the end of Week 3, Friday the 30th July. With the number of cases at the moment this was an expected outcome and one that we will be able to manage well with good communication and co-ordination.
Home learning began yesterday and hopefully we have ironed out the glitches and have everyone working independently at some level. Our teaching plans are simple at the moment and will adapt accordingly to feedback from students and parents as the lockdown continues.
During our lockdown period whole school Zoom assemblies will be held on Monday and Friday at 8.40 for whole school messages. At Monday’s assembly the PAWS expectation for this week was explained. It is PARTICIPATE - we are encouraging children to be organised and ready for learning. Please let Mr de Villiers know if your child has exhibited this for the week and they will be acknowledged on Friday at “assembly”.
Holy Communion preparation has begun. Thank you to the families who attended via Zoom last night and have joined in the parish programme in preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
Looking at the calendar we can see that many things were accomplished last term and so we were due for a slightly quieter term. Any bigger events we will try and relocate. Our religious feasts and celebrations will continue to be celebrated either on Zoom or in class depending on what phase of the lockdown or the restrictions that follow will allow. The events that will have to be moved or changed in Week 1-3 are:
- All masses are cancelled in the church. As we prepare liturgies we will hold some prayers and special events virtually
- Dance Fever Parent Event - postponed
- Parent Social Event - postponed
- Grandparents and Special Friends Mass - cancelled
Thank you for the parents who have recommended Sacred Heart to your friends and family. The leadership team interviewed and welcomed two classes full of Kindergarten children for 2022. I look forward to meeting all those new families and children later this year. As we have a number of classes with waiting lists for next year can you please let the office know if any other students are planning to move schools in the new year.
Our staff are here to support parents and students during this lockdown period. If we can help in any way please let us know. The contact details for the office and leadership team are:

For classroom teachers’ email addresses please see the Compass note from Monday.
Thank you to the parents who have sent in feedback and to those who have expressed their support of the teachers. This does brighten many a teachers day. Please let us know as soon as possible if you run into difficulties or need any part of the process or work explained.
A reminder that while we are at reduced numbers NSWHealth is also encouraging teachers to work from home so we do need the parents who send their children to school to book in through the office by email by 3pm the day before you want your child to attend to ensure we have enough teachers on site.
Update from Sydney Catholic Schools
With the extension of restrictions our schools continue remote learning. I emphasise that only those families who have no other option should be sending their children to school. It is critical that we reduce mobility across Greater Sydney as far as possible and strictly follow the stay at home orders.
While we are not inclined to specifically define essential workers, we trust parents understand how important it is to minimise the number of students, parents and staff in and around our school site. Thank you for your support in this.
Update from the P and F
Dear School Community
It probably comes as no surprise that due to the current COVID outbreak and associated restrictions we unfortunately have to postpone our “Under the Stars” event that was scheduled for Saturday 24th of July on the school grounds. We at the P & F do see the need to bring everybody together and are way overdue to connect but again this was not to be and we are working with Julie and the SHM staff to come up with another date that fits within the school calendar.
For those that have paid we can arrange refunds if the new date doesn’t suit you. Our ticket sales were very strong and we hope to welcome many of you to the re-scheduled event. I would like to thank Jennifer Baldus for co-ordinating all the elements to bring this event together.
With this new lockdown please make sure you all look after and support each other and stay safe so we can again enjoy the spirit of Sacred Heart Mosman! Please stay tuned for more communications on a replacement date later in the year.
Regards

Update from the Sports Club
Football update and Season resumption
We are all looking forward to returning to our football season. However, we do not have a confirmed recommencement date for the season as we await further information regarding what the return to football will look like. We will keep you up to date as we receive information. We would encourage you to keep fit and active in preparation for the return of the season. XLR8 have player skills development videos available and you can access these via facebook.com/XLR8Football/

Return to netball
All netball is suspended under current New Health Orders. NSNA has advised us that they will wait for Return to Play advice from NSW Health and the Office for Sport regarding dates and return to play parameters before making any decisions about the remainder of the season. We will update you about the competition and training as soon as practically possible. In the meantime, the SHM Sports Club website has a series of online netball training videos to keep our children active during lockdown: https://www.shmsportsclub.org.au/nblog
Any questions, please email Susie & Suzanne: shmnetball@gmail.com
Basketball
A reminder regarding Basketball registration will be sent shortly to gauge interest in the summer season. Hopefully Kinder basketball skills will begin soon as well.
Enjoy your week

Julie Caldwell
