Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Staff,
I don’t know about you but these chilly winter mornings have been testing me out! To be honest, I have never been enamoured to the cold weather, and let’s face it – we haven’t even hit August yet when the blustery winds will blow us around.
It is easy to wish for the time to fly by until September first when the gift of Spring weather will be upon us. However, I remember the wise words of my late father who used to delight in telling me that we should never wish the days away and instead we should appreciate every day for what it is. In some ways, Winter can be like a practice run for Advent, where instead of waiting and preparing for the birth of Jesus we are patiently looking forward to Spring blooms and warmer weather whilst still appreciating the beauty of the winter colours in the environment and the clean, crisp air.
I hope that our Year 5 students and teachers can reflect on this as they head off to Bathurst this week where beanies, scarves and warm jackets will be the order of the day. I am sure you will join with me in wishing them a safe and happy journey and that they arrive home on Friday full of new learning.
With best wishes,
Steve Conlon
Acting Principal
Parent-Teacher-Student interviews
We are so grateful to the parents and carers who have booked an interview with our teachers. Approximately 75% of our students had an interview booked with a teacher which is great. If you would like an interview, but haven’t yet managed to book one, please do so via Compass.
We have found this week that it is not possible to book in an interview in Compass using an iPad or iPhone. Interviews must be booked on a desktop or laptop computer. Apologies for the inconvenience.
As I stated last week, we would like to invite students to participate in interviews this year. Of course, it is entirely up to parents to make that decision, but from a school perspective, the students are more than welcome to join the discussions.
Dance Fever Showcase: Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2
Date: Wednesday, 23rd June
Time: 8.50am
Where: Basketball Court, Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Mosman
On the morning of Wednesday, 23rd June at approximately 8.50am, all parents are welcome to come to school to see the students from Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 participate in the Dance Fever Showcase.
Sports uniform is acceptable, the same as any other Wednesday.
This has always been an exciting time for parents and carers to take a look at what the students have learned to do under the guidance of their teachers from Dance Fever.
Dance Fever Interschool Challenge: Years 3 - 6 Final details
Date: Wednesday, 23rd June
Time: Students arrive at 4.30pm, parents arrive for a 5.30pm start time
Where: Ken Rosewall Tennis Centre, Homebush
As has been communicated to parents, the students will participate in the Dance Fever Interschool Challenge at the Ken Rosewall Tennis Centre at Homebush next Wednesday, 23rd June.
In addition to the information provided earlier, we would like all parents and students to know about the expectations of dress/costume on the night.
For the couple dances, it is preferred that girls wear dresses or skirts and boys in long trousers and collared shirts. Many boys like to borrow a tie or bow tie from dad for the occasion. Shoes for girls need to be a sandal style shoe with or without a small heel. For boys, school leather shoes are preferred while deck or jogger style shoes are acceptable.
For the group dance, children will need a change of clothes. All boys and girls have been asked to wear as much black clothing as possible. There is no need to purchase new clothing - however, please consider dark coloured or black long sleeved shirts or T-shirts and dark coloured or black shorts or long pants. There is also the option of a black or dark coloured hat too. Dark coloured or black sneakers or shoes are acceptable.
A staff member will apply some ‘camouflage’ coloured face paint on the evening before the group dance. If your child feels uncomfortable with face paint, they are welcome to let their teacher know.
Whole School Public Speaking Finals
In Term 2 each year, we have a whole school focus on Public Speaking. The students are taught about the format of a persuasive text, as well as the features of a speech. We are very aware that teacher instruction and feedback, parent support and the efforts and ideas of students themselves work will combine to produce the speeches each year, and that was evident at our Finals last Thursday.
Mrs Susan Russell adjudicated our speeches and provided students with excellent feedback. Each finalist was given some time to workshop directly with Mrs Russell following the speeches in order to make their speeches even better.

In the week of Monday, 21 to Thursday, 24 June 2021, our Year 2 parents and carers will be at the morning and afternoon carline to collect premium red and white wine and champagne.
The bottles collected will form part of a wine auction to be held at the Parents and Carers event on the night of Saturday, 24 July 2021. The money raised from this wine auction will be distributed by the P&F for initiatives that will benefit our children.
We are asking each Sacred Heart household to contribute a premium bottle of red, white or champagne - something that you would bring to a dinner party with friends, at a value of around $45. Please give generously.
Sacred Heart Feast Day
A sincere thank you to all Sacred Heart staff who each played a significant role in making Sacred Heart Feast Day a very special day for our students. We began our day listening to the Sacred Heart School Band, followed by a beautiful Mass and a day packed full of fun!
Thank you to Anthony Munro (Sydney Catholic Schools- Religious Education Specialist) for attending our Sacred Heart Feast Day Mass and presenting a new certificate for the Archbishop’s Charter to Mr Steve Conlon and Father Noel.
Our students had a special day filled with fun! They were engaged in exciting and creative outdoor activities, accompanied by reflective, educational indoor activities.
The Year Six students did an amazing job of planning, setting up and leading the outdoor activities. Thank you to all Year Six students and the Year Six teachers who supported them. You each went above and beyond in your role as our school leaders.
At the end of the day, the School Captains presented the Vinnies Winter Appeal Hampers to Peter Marshall from St Vincent de Paul. Our choir singers and musicians led the school in singing Hearts on Fire.
Thank you to the team who packed and wrapped the hampers so beautifully-
Mrs Mary Lozina, Mrs Cecilia Jago, parent volunteers Heather Malone, Anja Venn and Lilia Graham, along with the team of Year Six students in the Pope Francis Program.
These hampers were filled with the kindness and generosity of the Sacred Heart Community.
What a fantastic day!
